Smh. Americans, lol! I don'#39;t know why so many tourists (not just Americans) deem the transsiberian railway to be a tourist-y kind of thing or whatever. It'#39;s not. You don'#39;t take it if you'#39;re a tourist. Just don'#39;t. Anyways, I enjoyed the movie so much! it'#39;s got the good old intense thrilling scenes. It is wonderful to be on the edge of your seat waiting to see what will happen next. It'#39;s a gripping sensation. I liked it. It is a decent movie, in my opinion. However, this one was a little too long. But, I'#39;d like to see more '#34;trains'#34; movie though. They don'#39;t make many of them anymore, I noticed. For a movie released in 2008, watching it 10 years later, it doesn'#39;t feel bad compared to new movies in the same genre that are being produced now. It'#39;s a good movie if you have few hours to spare.

_Transsiberian_ is a thrilling ride with a plot that will keep you engaged until the very end. The movie combines a great storyline with some well-executed action scenes and the cinematography does a good job capturing the vast landscapes of the trans-Siberian railway. If you're looking for a movie that will keep you entertained with both its plot and action, then _Transsiberian_ is worth a watch.

Woody Harrelson and Emily Mortimer play a naïve, generic, overly trusting American couple on a voyage across Asia in this bleak, troubling thriller. During their week-long ride on the tracks of the Trans Siberian Railway, they quickly fall in with some shady characters and methodically dig themselves into a deep, dark hole. Harrelson is overly optimistic, single minded and simple, like a railroad-obsessed slant on his character from Cheers, while Mortimer'#39;s guarded introvert tries to relive her rebellious younger years via a series of increasingly forehead-smacking decisions. Those missteps effectively fuel the plot, though, and quietly build to a hectic, frightening climax amidst the desolate Russian snow drifts. Tense, foreboding and nasty, it'#39;s often very tough to look past the female lead'#39;s idiotic judgment. All the same, I caught myself holding my breath in suspense more than once. Effective at what it sets out to do, though it'#39;s frequently predictable; not something I'#39;ll need to watch over and over again.

This is another one that I wanted to like more than I did. Good cast, interesting plot... it was just ok.

***Slow-build suspense on the Trans-Siberian Express*** A couple doing missionary work in China (Woody Harrelson & Emily Mortimer) takes the Trans-Siberian train from Beijing to Moscow, but their involvement with a dubious couple (Eduardo Noriega & Kate Mara) gets them entangled with a no-nonsense narcotics detective (Ben Kingsley). My half-brother told me a story of his travels in Russia back when it was part of the USSR: He said the deeper he journeyed into the country the more it seemed like he was going back in time. At one point he happened to turn around in some kind of an installation and immediately got stopped by authorities and apprehended. He was taken to the proverbial dark room with a hanging light where he was interrogated for a couple hours. I asked what he thought was going to happen and he said he feared getting taken to a gulag in Siberia. I bring this up because you’ll see these kinds of elements in "Transsiberian" (2008), a crime drama/suspense/thriller that has the tone & themes of “A Simple Plan” (1998), but mixed with a little “Runaway Train” (1985) and “Dr. Zhivago” (1965). While I still prefer “Runaway Train” I have no problem listing “Transsiberian” with these notable films, despite the fact that it’s an obscure flick that bombed at the box office (no doubt because it wasn’t released properly and didn’t reach enough theaters). “Transsiberian” works so well because it has the confidence to take its time and establish the characters, which are nicely fleshed-out. Roy (Harrelson), for instance, is an affable Christian who seems oblivious to the evil in the world and assumes the best in everybody. His wife, Jessie (Mortimer), by contrast, has a dark history, but was obviously attracted to Roy’s innocence. She sees her former-self in Abby (Mara), which links them. Meanwhile Carlos (Noriega) is the worldly bad boy who’s an expert at wooing women. But this is just the set-up, the movie takes a thrilling turn in the last act, but it’s superior to the similar Hollywood turn in “A Simple Plan,” which I found unconvincing and a little eye-rolling. The film runs 1 hour and 51 minutes and was shot in Lithuania, Russian and China. GRADE: A-
