Seriously how can this only have a rating of 75% crazy...one of the funniest films ever. A film you can watch many times over without getting bored.
'#34;Mrs. Doubtfire'#34; is an extremely funny and heartfelt film. It has tons of laughs as well as tears, this is definitly Robin Williams'#39; best film. Watching williams do voices as well as play Mrs. Doubtfire is a real treat. Also the supporting cast of actors do an excellent job, I highly reccomend it.
@1treehillbilly I agree with you 100 %, this is the best movie when you'#39;re bored or if you want to see great cinema with an amazing **Robin Williams**, but the opinion of the people, there will always be strange and has nothing to do with reality or the appropriate assessment of the movie or show. There will always be someone who either have not seen or considers that if a man dressed as a woman, this film is sick (and as such opinions heard) no one is interested in the fact that it is a comedy. People - always strange. _This was supposed to be a short comment_ ;D .
I don'#39;t remember watching this as a kid, so I watched it while this rona thing is happening. And wow, I wish I had a mom like Mrs. Doubtfire. haha! Robin Williams is just amazing and talented. I was a bit surprised about the ending cause i was expecting something, but then I realized, that'#39;s the reality of life..it is a good film. Now I want to binge-watch more Robin Williams'#39; movies!
I can't believe I haven't ever seen this before! It was pretty good, the humor lands, the acting is as good as it needed to be for it to be entertaining. I think I rolled my eyes at a couple of things and thought the plot didn't make sense in a few places, but other than that I enjoyed watching it, and now I know why so many people consider it a Robin Williams classic.
A good Robin Williams comedy for the whole family. Some like not more than myself, and I can understand why. They are better able to ignore the rather unrealistic story. Still good entertainment.
A funny film with a beautiful message at the end! It was worth watching it again after many years!
30 years ago today this movie was released.
A stellar cast in a fantastic comedy.
I almost forgot how much I absolutely adored this film, one of Robin Williams' finest, (in my opinion). This is a really nice heartwarming, family comedy for all to enjoy. I would recommend this to anyone.
Despite getting a mixed reception from critics at the time, Mrs. Doubtfire has become a staple in ’90s family entertainment and has captured the hearts of so many people young and old. I still love this movie even if reality can get the best of it sometimes. Chris Columbus talks to audiences about divorce in entertaining but also heartfelt ways that show that just because divorce is a reality it doesn’t mean that you can’t find a way to live with it in a balanced matter. This is my favorite movie from Chris Columbus as it makes great use of comedy, character development, stunning cinematography, and of course, utilizing Robin Williams tablets to the max. If you haven’t watched this movie yet I would recommend you do so. It's a great movie to laugh along with but also to feel emotionally connected with as well.

After losing custody of his kids for, basically, being a big kid, Robin Williams goes undercover as a British nanny so he can remain a part of their lives. While he’s initially unprepared for the rigors of housekeeping, and the little ones almost immediately see through the disguise, he soon finds his rhythm and grows to become an indispensable resource for the family, not to mention a close confidant for his ex-wife. Although he often abuses that position (especially when the wife shows interest in a former flame), in general he’s a more active, responsible parent under the wig and cardigan than he ever was as a traditional father. This is another weak, by-the-numbers Chris Columbus picture, elevated by a manic, largely-improvised performance from Williams. Credit the director for the liberty he grants in that respect, allowing his star to completely take over and alter the tone of several scenes, but man alive, the nuts and bolts of the film are completely inept and flavorless. That’s something I’ve noticed in most of Columbus’s efforts behind the camera: they just aren’t very well-made, with the best entries (_Home Alone_, for instance) succeeding in spite of his pervasive, amateurish tendencies. They all feel like big-budget Hallmark movies; broad, hammy and superficial. This is no exception. It’s just a quick-lipped Robin Williams dress-up show, nothing more.
Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams) has just become a divorced father of 3 children who is only allowed to visit them once a week. When he learns his ex-wife Miranda Hillard (Sally Field) is looking for a housekeeper, he dresses up as a woman and uses his voice acting skills to apply for the job. I have seen a lot of mixed responses on this film. Some love it, and some felt the touchy subjects it covers doesn't work with the comedy aspect. I did enjoy this movie a lot, but I enjoyed it more on the first watch. It has a lot of funny moments, but a lot of them just didn't quite work a second time round for me when I knew what was going to happen. I still had a good time second time round regardless. Of course I think the plot is pretty make-believe and most of what happens is not very believable at times, but this a movie after all and movies like this find away to spin situations in very imaginative ways. It didn't please everyone, it definitely worked for me. Robin Williams did a fantastic job as Mrs. Doubtfire. It was a heart-warming performance, and you could feel the genuine pain he must be feeling having to see his kids this way. I will say, despite his voice-acting skills, I wasn't the biggest fan of the Scottish accent and felt a little off putting at times. While not a disaster, it did take away a little something for me. If I am being honest, I didn't really care for his role as Daniel Hillard, he just didn't feel very likeable to me. I thought Sally Field was decent in this movie. Most of the times I let realism in movies slide if they are enjoyable, but a part of me refuses to accept how easily Miranda divorces Daniel, but I also realize that we don't see the irresponsible things he has done in the past before the movie, but there was not much context given to us on that which didn't work. Pierce Brosnan was also in the movie; he was alright I guess. The back and forth scenes where he must quickly change between Daniel and Mrs. Doubtfire are easily the funniest scenes of the movie was done very well. The script complimented them very well as well. The last parts of the movie are the biggest let down of the movie. None of it worked at all for me. Despite the whole movie covering pretty a pretty dire subjects in divorce and custody which not only is hard on parents but also the kids, Christopher Columbus dealt with it in a heartfelt way. However, towards the end it just felt way off the mark and not up to the tone of what came before it. It turned the movie from a light hearted comedy to quite a dark drama film. The ending has been questioned by many others and I for one don't disagree. It just didn't work well for me. This is a good comedy film where Robin Williams delivers a fine performance. 7/10.
"Danny" (Robin Williams) and wife "Miranda" (Sally Field) just can't go on any longer with their marriage. Their constant rowing and her husband finally jacking in his job as a voice-over artiste of some cigarette-based "creative differences" see her get a divorce. "Danny" adores his three kids but is only given visitation rights for a Saturday until he can prove worthy of more. He manages to get a basic job, but misses his brood terribly. When he hears that "Miranda" is seeking a housekeeper, he hits on the idea of getting his gay brother "Frank" (Harvey Fierstein) and his boyfriend - who are into prosthetics - to make him a mask and some body-altering clothes and et voilà - he is now the English (but Scottish sounding?) "Mrs Doubtfire". "Miranda" takes to her instantly - after some mischievous ground-laying work be her ex, and soon (s)he is back in the family home amongst the children (s)he loves. With court-ordered inspections of his home regularly taking place, it is only a matter of time before this wheeze is rumbled but "Danny" hopes that his employer at a television network for kids (Robert Prosky) might appreciate the character he has created, boost the flagging ratings and maybe that way he can make enough money to restore his family to him? Meantime, the wealthy and smarmy "Stuart" (Pierce Brosnan) is looming on the horizon trying to woo his way into the family's good books - an operation that "Mrs. Doubtfire" watches and abhors at first hand. She's quite a dab hand with a lime at thirty paces! For most of this, it showcases Williams' considerable skills as a mimic and comedy actor - his timing is great. The film does rather fall off a cliff for me during the last half hour in the restaurant, though, where the comedic surrenders to the slap-stick and the joke comes crumbling down leaving us in a well of cringing sentimentality that I didn't particularly enjoy. That said, it's ground-breaking cinema that illustrates just what a dad will do to to be with his children and it takes a huge great swipe at sexual stereotyping too. There's a gentle chemistry between Williams and Field and there are some lovely, vicious, one liners thrown in for us to savour. Not great, but very good.
