Overview

After returning to her childhood home, young nun Colleen finds her old room exactly how she left it: painted black and covered in goth and metal posters. Her parents are happy enough to see her, but her brother is living as a recluse in the guesthouse since returning home from the Iraq war.

It'#39;s OK, not great. They didn'#39;t quite get the balance of blending comedy with sensitive topics... badly injured war veteran, suicide, religion, family ties. It'#39;s too bad, as '#34;Little Sister'#34; has potential to combine the characters and story into something uniquely believable. Instead it goes off in different directions, spreads the subplots too thin, and overall didn'#39;t succeed -- at least for me.

It'#39;s a movie about dysfunctional family. That'#39;s it. I didn'#39;t find it either very funny or interesting. I just kept waiting the movie to '#34;start'#34; and it didn'#39;t.

Enjoyable drama about a dysfunctional family coming together with all the problems and chaos that involves. Won'#39;t change your world but it passes the time.

This was a rather sweet little film about family, connection and the struggle to find your place in a complicated world. The film went down roads that have been traveled many times but still felt like it brought something refresh to this area. I don'#39;t think it was as good as the fantastic Skeleton Twins but it was well worth the time. follow me at https://IHateBadMovies.com or facebook IHateBadMovies

This movie is not '#39;Comedy'#39;. Should be given Family Drama category to be more accurate.

I wanted to like this. It seemed like a charming little film. But the terrible camerawork got in the way. HOLD! THE! CAMERA! STILL! Weirdly the first few scenes were fine, but as soon as she got in the car to go to her family it was like they handed the camera over to someone with serious Parkinson's. Fine, I can understand wanting to use stylistic changes to demonstrate a character is going through a period of transition, & wanting a more naturalistic shooting style, but you still need someone with steady hands to hold the camera! The odd movement & occasional drift is understandable & adds to the loose style, but constant wobbling doesn't. What's more, other than switching to handheld shooting, there didn't seem to be much difference in shots or cuts. Skipping ahead through the film, I saw that the steady shots came back towards the end, so I'm assuming it was deliberate, but it was a weird choice & handled really badly. I can put up with awful dialogue & terrible acting, because often those things can be funny, & the rest of the film can make up for the badness if everything else is done well. But you can't make bad camerawork entertaining & nothing can really distract from it. If you want to see a good film about a novice nun reconnecting with family before taking her vows, I recommend Ida, a Polish film that won an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film (it was also nominated for Best Cinematography).
