Pretty dumb but somehow I finished it. Funny last line. ;)
1st time I REALLY paid attention to it and I am awe-struck! I did not know that Friedkin directed this cult ....The exquisite manipulation of character motivations as it became embedded into an over-arching deconsctruction of moral values ....This is a masterpiece of dark humour dripping in satire at the genius level only matched by the total magnificence of the ensemble acting!!!
Weird ending but incredible movie.
Well.. This was.. Weird.. Dunno if I liked it or hated it, seriously.. Just left me with "dafuq did I just watch?".
SPOILERS, Somewhat. Got to love the trailer mentality of this movie. A Father and son who hatch a plan to pimp out their Sister/Daughter to a detective/Killer to pay for their Ex-wife/Mother to be murdered for insurance money. Sister with limited mental abilities seemed to be on board. Can’t be based on reality, wait yes it is. WTF. Well that tracks. It was in rural Florida, retirees and meth heads. Seriously didn’t even verify the policy!!! I wanted to hate this movie, but I actually loved it. A car wreck you can’t not look at.
This a great movie to go for as a first date. Or to watch your friends on some movie night.
'gt;"You gonna kill someone? You can't even tell time!" I am still processing what I just watched. What a dark and insane tale of trailer trash is this? This is unfortable to watch yet I couldn't stop watching it. Matthew McConaughey absolutely kills it, and I will never look at fried chicken the same. Fun Fact: Kurt Russell turned down the role, saying that his long-term partner, Goldie Hawn, would "kill him" for playing such a dark role.
So. Much. YELLING!!!!! And I can'#39;t stand it.
I'#39;ve just watched this and I'#39;ve already forgotten how it ended. What did stick in my mind was how seriously unpleasant all the characters were.
Don'#39;t know how I missed this when it first came out, but found it unexpectedly in 2020. Wow... fabulous movie. The writing is great, the plot and all the actors were great... and the ending!! Funny with plenty of twists to the story keep you entertained for the whole movie. 10/10
One of those movies you watch and forget about twenty minutes later because of the poor ending and execution.
Well, it'#39;s more like a theatre-movie. The characters are talking to each other, but in strange, exaggerated ways. They talking to each other, but not with each other. It'#39;s more like every character has his own monologue within the dialogue. This is very strange. Also at the end it gets pretty strange. In the end i liked Matthew McConaughey performance, but i don'#39;t like the result.
Opens with a disgusting family. The characters are setup fast with all the impending complications from the plot. So far so good. What follows? Stereotypical redneck characters (stripper, mentally challenged father, drug dealer son, a cop that'#39;s a killer, used girl) with unbelievable morals, making stupid decisions to drive the farcical plot. Mediocre dialogue that treds the same ground again and again, somehow even with plot development. Add in some boobies, bush and perv stuff to be dark. The Pacing feels like an episode from a TV series. The ending makes it the dumbest redneck movie of the year that wants to be edgy. If any other director made this movie the professional critics would have probably disliked it. It'#39;s not awful, it'#39;s just humdrum. It'#39;s a Coen brothers movies without the pseudo-intellectual nonsense. The positives. Least Gina Gershon looks good for her age. The ending is unintentionally funny.
Weird and disturbing film, didn'#39;t like it and i would never recommend this
Weird film. I liked the way that Joe wants to remain calm despite the bad happened.

Imagine if Rob Zombie directed a '90s Tarantino movie. _Killer Joe_ is a film I had heard about way before I saw it. Given the reputation, and the NC-17, I thought it was going to be brutal. Now, while the movie has some nudity, and violent moments, it's surprisingly tame. There is a term commonly used to describe stories like this one: evil doing evil to evil. Without a doubt, the movie is a fun watch as it's going, however the story never feels complete. There's no first or third act. It's just a really long second act. We're dropped into a story where Chris Smith is in debt to the wrong type of people. How will he ever get the money? That's there the titular killer, Joe, comes into play. _Killer Joe_ begins as a fairly grounded crime thriller, but starts to go off the rails once the unhinged Joe is free from his leash. That is to say, the harshest moments here are so over the top as to be comedic. I have to say, McConaughey really is having fun here. If you're wondering what period of his career this is, well, he's not in the cheeseball mode of his early acting, nor the dead-serious gear of his later work, no, he's drawing from his role in the TCM remake. This crazy Texas s'n'bitch is giving it his all as a truly crazy Texas s'n'bitch. I'd recommend this for fans of gritty '90s crime movies, like: _Freeway_, _True Romance_, and _Natural Born Killers._ As long as blood and boobs don't bother you, you'll be fine.
I wonder if Gershon still likes chicken.
William Friedkin serves up Trailer Trash Neo-Noir with a side order of Fried Chicken. Killer Joe is directed by William Friedkin and adapted to screenplay by Tracy Letts from his own play of the same name. It stars Matthew McConaughey, Emile Hirsch, Juno Temple, Thomas Haden Church and Gina Gershon. Music is scored by Tyler Bates and cinematography by Caleb Deschanel. Plot finds Hirsch as Chris Smith, who because he is in severe debt to local thugs, hatches a plan to bump off his waster of a mother and claim the life insurance. Roping in the rest of his trailer dwelling family, he hires Killer Joe (McConaughey), a cop with a sideline in murder, but the Smith's have no idea just what price they will have to pay for his services. So pulpy, so amusingly dark, Killer Joe is one of those films that will sit at the top of many film fan's best of lists for 2012. Yet if someone came up to me and declared it one of the worst then I certainly will understand. Undeniably it has no widespread appeal, you either get it or you don't, you will either laugh along with Friedkin and his dark observations or you will feel the whole thing is just too ugly to be entertainment. Man it's good to have Friedkin back pushing peoples buttons! Filmed in Texas in under three weeks, Killer Joe is a film that walks the fine line of misogyny and perversity for perversity's sake. But it never falls over that mark, even though these are scummy characters living in a scummy world, where there's sex and violence, and violent simulated sex and nudity; all of which is cloaked by a sweaty crime gone wrong caper. Much of the film is dialogue driven, rest assured this is very talky, but the director wrings out much tension and salaciousness from every character interaction, the slow-burn approach only heightening the sense of dread. When the finale comes, and it's a cracker-jack ending, there's an almost merciful release that it's all over. These are people you wouldn't want to hang out with ever, only there's Friedkin chuckling away to himself having made us spend an hour and forty minutes with this grime laden crew. If you feel like you need a bath afterwards, that's perfectly natural. Friedkin has garnered terrific performances from a top line cast. Hirsch (powder-keg), Church (naievity extraordinaire), Temple (virginal piggy in the middle) and Gershon (bold and suspicious), are all giving disturbing credibility to the material, but as good as they are they are trumped considerably by McConaughey. One of the most frustrating actors working today, much like Cage, a ream of poor movies adorn his CV, but once in a while he throws in a performance of such genuine quality that it begs to be acknowledged by his peers. Here as Killer Joe he lays on a Faust like menace, delivering his lines with clinically calm precision, yet still there's a glint in his eye, we know a black heart beats there but he can charm a snake out of its basket, a girl out of her underwear... Unflinching direction, bravura performances and neo-noir at its near best, one of the best films of 2012 so far. Well, to some of us at least.... 9/10

_Killer Joe_ had the making to be a genuinely great film, but the quality control in the writing room limits the results. So much of the story works for me on a thematic and plot progression basis. I enjoyed the premise and the stakes that this movie provides, but writer Tracy Letts wrote this like it was some subversive wet dream of his as a teenager. This movie is vial, there is so much unnecessary nudity from creepy changing room shots to women's genitals being presented in full view, to soft-core pornography in the climax of the movie. I understand that this movie is supposed to have no redeeming characters, but the graphicness takes away from the scene more than adds to them. It is very reminiscent of my complaint about Rob Zombie films. With that being said, the performances here are incredible. Matthew McConaughey is amazing. McConaughey is cold, calculated, and downright terrifying in almost every scene he is in. The final twenty minutes of this film are spectacular. His discovery and reveal gave me goosebumps. I loved it. Thomas Haden Church is pretty great too, he is so stupid and pointless that he adds a bit of humor in intense scenes that makes the viewer guilty for laughing. Everyone else was okay, they filled their roles well but did not necessarily impress me. Despite my complaints, I enjoyed this film. It was an intense and thrilling experience that kept me on my toes till the credits rolled. I still think that the graphic nature and vulgarness take away from what could have been. **Score:** _67%_ | **Verdict:** _Good_
