Aggressively weird but genuinely hilarious.
I can'#39;t remember the last time that I watched a movie that was this unique. The movie is a rather black comedy (not unlike Happiness) that is meant to satirize suburbia. It'#39;s weird and twisted but not to a fault. I laughed out loud many times but not from typical Hollywood movie scenes where they ramp up for the big comedic moment. At no point is the crazy world that they live in acknowledged (very similar to Airplane). If you prefer Hollywood comedies I recommend you stay far away from this movie. It'#39;s weird and strange and if you are willing to accept what it is selling you'#39;ll be in for a good experience. follow me at https://IHateBadMovies.com or facebook IHateBadMovies
The most entertaining movie I'#39;ve seen this year! It was absurdly great. The visual was really pleasing to look at. I'#39;m livin for the whole vibe! Performance was great too, especially the main character, I guess it'#39;s because she'#39;s also the director and writer of this movie
A surreal comedy that takes the social norms of suburban life to their grotesque extremes, exposing the harrowing consequences of conforming to the expectations of a community. In this absurd world, where even the most perfectly straight teeth are adorned with braces, residents wear strikingly vivid colors and navigate their surroundings on golf carts, doing the impossible to fit in and look more perfect than anyone else. While the symbolism employed within the film tends to be a little too obvious, the lack of subtlety is compensated by a plethora of cleverly executed gags and a consistently unsettling atmosphere. However, I was hoping things would get much weirder.
It'#39;s a tough watch, it is unique but I feel like I let myself down sticking with the entire duration. I would not watch it again by choice.
[Filmin] There is a difference between absurd humor and silly humor. John Waters practices absurd and vitriolic humor, focused on that fairytale America that hides its sordidness. Here the directors want to do something similar, but their humor remains on the surface. There are evident critical references, but with irregular pieces, scattered, with an awkward editing work that prevents them from being successful.
What the ever-loving :zipper_mouth: did I just watch?

A very weird, very absurd comedy about lives of posh people in California with its own very special universe and visual style. Not everything works but there are a lots of original ideas. It's mostly based on wealthy people trying to impress and out-everything each other, focusing on Jill and Lisa and their respective families. Lots of situations are very absurd though accepted as totally normal by the protaonists. For instance: - Every adult is wearing braces - Jill gives away her baby to Lisa because she thought she was pretty - At some point Jill's son becomes a dog, and life goes on as if it was totally normal - Lisa pretends to be pregnant by putting a football under her dress, like, eight in the middle of a match, and everybody congratulates her - She then "give birth" to the ball, that is 100% treated as a real family member - There's a long kissing scene before they realize they're kissing the wrong husband - Jill decides to divorce instantly because her friends just told her to If you're into absurd humor, it's a gem. I wouldn't say there were that many hilarious moments, but among all that, there's bound to be something that makes you smile. There is not a story per se even if the situation evolves sometimes after some events. The closest to a storyline would be the constant competition by proxy through their kids. Both are extremely annoying in their own way. There is no real ending either. Visually it's very bright and candy colored, which goes very well with the kind of fake perfect life they're living. It comes from a shorter movie and my feeling was that it was a little too long, though I would not be able to pinpoint where the slower portions are, there aren't that many, maybe the feeling comes from the fact that at some point we've already been though the jokes and it's a little repetitive, but again, not that much. It's missing a little extra final polishingn but it's still very original and funny.

Bathed in a strange glow as it captures people in moments of surreal epiphany, ‘Greener Grass’ distorts reality through a dreamlike lens. DeBoer and Luebbe have created a world of blunt allegories and social antagonisms, perverted by a unique style into a manic, nearly unclassifiable black comedy. - Jake Watt Read Jake's full article... https://www.maketheswitch.com.au/article/review-greener-grass-a-deeply-odd-and-very-funny-suburban-nightmare

There's a difference between true absurdism, and just doing random shit to be "quirky", but apparently nobody told the people who made this movie that. Embarassingly unfocused film where every gag goes on far too long to be funny, but that's OK as very few of them were every funny to begin with. The whole dog thing, Twilson, they're like an SNL-friendly version of a Tim and Eric skit, but stretched out to an entire subplot of a feature film and with delusions of grandeur that they're making some grand point about the dark underbelly of suburbia or whatever bollocks. The jokes are all designed by committee to be giffed on Tumblr ("your mother is not a school!" stands out particularly as this), and the meandering narrative cull-de-sacs aren't clever or avant-garde, they're just a waste of runtime.
