Where to Watch

Overview

This movie portrays the drug scene in Berlin in the 70s, following tape recordings of Christiane F. 14 years old Christiane lives with her mother and little sister in a typical multi-storey apartment building in Berlin. She's fascinated by the 'Sound', a new disco with most modern equipment. Although she's legally too young, she asks a friend to take her. There she meets Detlef, who's in a clique where everybody's on drugs. Step by step she gets drawn deeper into the scene.

Featured Comments/Tips

Actors recite bad. The film has aged badly.

Finally got round to seeing it. Along with '#39;Requiem'#39;, it'#39;s got to be the most powerful, raw, honest tale of addiction in film. You can also see how it must have inspired countless other films along the way like '#39;Heaven Knows what'#39;, '#39;Trainspotting'#39; and Beautiful Boy'#39; etc. But '#39;Christiane F'#39; feels like a sort of watershed moment in this sub-genre of films. And the true story along with it'#39;s cult status in Germany at the time, makes it that much more engaging. The scenes of both shooting up '#39;H'#39; and its withdrawl are terrifying. The film pretty much borders on horror at these moments. Natja Brunckhorst is superb as Christiane, with her naivety and frailty balanced very well. This is a must watch for anybody intetested in brutally honest tales of addiction, or just great film-making. Also, David Bowie rocked.

Watched this film again after ~15 years, and I'#39;m surprised to see that it still holds up, despite the cringeworthy line delivery during the first part of the film. A mostly surreal work, it'#39;s even more shattering when you know that this is happening everywhere, everytime.

The movie from the bestseller about teenagers becoming har drug addicts and the consequences. Very hard to watch at times as it is close to reality.

German cinema has a Stock im Arsch Amazing performance by Natja Brunckhorst. Some great visuals in there! But the dialogue is clonky as usual. Not only because of ADR, but also because of the writing. The music of David Bowie is implemented in a most cliché way. The film has potential, it just suffers from being a german production. PS: What was the mum doing? I mean, are you even trying?! PPS: At the end, this would still land in my top twenty german movies ever made. Maybe even top ten. Weird..

Loved the soundtrack I mean DAVID BOWIE? and also unpopular opinion Detlev didn't forced her to do anything she was into drugs at the beginning.
