Lilja lives in poverty and dreams of a better life. Her mother moves to the United States and abandons her to her aunt, who neglects her. Lilja hangs out with her friends, Natasha and Volodya, who is suicidal. Desperate for money, she starts working as a prostitute, and later meets Andrei. He offers her a good job in Sweden, but when Lilja arrives her life quickly enters a downward spiral.

As someone who is from Eastern Europe, this is a very accurate portrayal of teenage life at that time. Have seen some Americans' elsewhere pointing out that the movie is not cheery or joyful enough, well, the life at that time wasn't joyful. Anyways, about the movie, 10/10. Acting, atmosphere, general portrayal of flats, living situation, friends, high school, apathy, etc. Very relatable.

A tough movie that has a huge impact, the story is very well written and although it's sad, it has melancholic poetic elements, the atmosphere is decadent, everything is cold, abandoned and has pessimistic tones. The soundtrack has frenetic moments that sometimes illustrate very well and sometimes sound a little out of context. The acting is superb, extremely real, there is no way not to get involved. The direction also opted for close-up shots, often from unusual angles, giving an even greater sense of immersion. A movie that makes you think, leaves many uncomfortable feelings, is very striking, especially as it is inspired by real events.

Wow! Where to begin? _Lilya Forvever_ (or 4-Ever, if you prefer) is the most stunning and bleak film I have ever seen. I wanted to compare it to _Kids_ (1995) or _Fish Tank_ (2009), but those movies are warm and optimistic when weighed against this.
