Wow that was fantastic. C’mon C’mon is a film that acts as a device to widely reflect on mankind and so marvelously touch each viewer’s heart in such an outstandingly real way that no one can truly come close to doing justice by describing or attempting to capture with words, it’s without a doubt a film with the ability to change one’s outlook on life. It’s the best film of the year as of now.
A minimalist story in which the future that the journalist asks the children he interviews about is also the representation of a complex present in an unstable North America. With obvious references to "Alice in the city" (1974), this generational meeting is transformed into a somewhat pessimistic vision of a youth that has an uncertain future before it, but looks at it with the optimism that maturity has lost. .
A beautiful movie that will make your gears start turning. The real interviews lift this movie to great heights.
What a great movie! Mike Mills wrote a masterpiece. The script is unbelievably moving and funny and deep. I loved how it put together different stories to talk about the relationships between children and adults and how we, as human beings, are interacting with every action. The performance by Joaquin Phoenix is marvelous because he truly got the character and made us empathize with him. The cinematography is beautiful and so is the music and sound. This is one of those movies that makes you think beyond the movie and consider your life and your relationships.
Watch it. It will be good for you.
I used to take copious notes while reviewing movies but after creating more than 1100 reviews the practice seemed unnecessary as it became harder and harder to find good movies. I loved this movie and I wish I had written down all of the thoughts and emotions I had while watching it. It's not for everyone and it takes a while to get into it but the viewer is rewarded for the patience. First and foremost, this movies works because of the incredible subtle performances by Phoenix and Hoffman. One can watch this movie on many levels - the one that stuck out the most for me was how difficult it is to be a parent (the fabulous The Lost Daughter also touched a bit on this). I can't tell you how many times I saw Phoenix struggle to acquire the new skill and I said to myself "I remember that". follow me at https://IHATEBadMovies.com or facebook IHATEBadMovies
Me thinking to myself: "so much Radiolab vibes..." Later on: "OMG, is that Molly Webster?!?!" (from Radiolab) I hope that my sister never has kids!
I found this to be incredibly realistically portrayed, almost to the point of making me claustrophobic because (and I'm aware how highfalutin this sounds) we really are all trapped in this human experience aren't we.
Runner-up to water-boarding . . .
If you're one of the people who can pretend that listening to a child for 90 minutes straight is art, this movie is for you. Otherwise, another boring liberal black and white pretentiousness
it's the contemporary version of Alice in the cities!
Johnny: “Your kid says he likes NYC better LA.” Viv: “Little traitor.” ‘C’mon C'mon’ is a smartly written movie by Mike Mills that’s funny, yet dramatic and grounded, and shot beautifully in rich black and white. The movie is held together with two fantastic performances from Joaquin Phoenix and newcomer Woody Norman, who were so pure and sweet together. I can guess most of their scenes were playfully improvised. The supporting actors Gaby Hoffmann and Scoot McNairy also deliver great performances. Throughout the movie, Phoenix plays a radio journalist named Johnny, who interviews kids with a series of questions, with one question that keeps being asked is what their think the future is going to be like with their answers being beautifully insightful. Some of it stayed with me long after the movie ended. I’m surprised not a lot of people are talking about this, in terms of award show talk or just in general.
An art house remake of _Big Daddy_. Everything about this movie excelled, from the acting to the cinematography to the directing, but the banality of the story kept me from appreciating any of those things enough.
Good movie with great acting

Full review: <a>https://www.tinakakadelis.com/beyond-the-cinerama-dome/2021/12/28/the-kids-are-gonna-be-okay-cmon-cmon-review<a> _C’mon C’mon_ isn’t an easy movie to classify. It doesn’t fit in a simple genre. It’s the kind of movie that reaches into your chest and builds a home there; a one-in-a-million movie that makes you acutely aware of being alive. You can feel the warmth of the blood in your veins and the ache of the bones in your body. You are present and you are witnessing magic.

C’mon C’mon is a beautiful look at the developing relationship between an uncle and his nephew. It made me feel a huge range of emotions and has a very satisfying ending. The script is excellent and it is elevated due to fantastic performances from the entire cast. Joaquin Phoenix is superb and his chemistry with both Woody Norman and Gaby Hoffmann is excellent. Norman was great, he had such a wide range for a young actor and was able to make his emotions feel genuine, which is difficult in a lot of child actors. Hoffman was also quite good, she displays her helplessness to care for both her son and ex-husband tremendously well. Cinematography was top notch and the audio design was brilliant. There are some really cool things that are done with the interview sections/street recordings that create a very unique listening experience. My one complaint is that the movie drags on a little longer than it should. There is not a lot going on in this film, and that is fine because you get to spent time with the characters and see their relationship blossom. But that creates a very slow pace that could have been corrected with a slightly shorter runtime. Score: 79% Verdict: Great
