Why is this described as History, Drama, Comedy. Comedy? Didn't get the jokes.... Storyline is interesting enough, but the cgi is pretty bad, expected better from Roland Emmerich

Crap cgi. Crap story. Very woke. Repetitive episodes.

Cheap graphics, excessive Sex scenes ( not the type you'd like)... and overall bad acting. too much talking and not enough fighting , def does not follow the real history. the idea of the show was great , but poorly executed , lets hope they dont make a season 2.

It wants to be so spectacular that it seems like a B series, closer to the Italian peplum of the sixties than to prestige TV. Roland Emmerich has never directed the action scenes worse, especially the chariot race. Meanwhile, Anthony Hopkins does what he can with what he has, in the midst of a cast that is incapable of giving the slightest credibility to his characters. Not that much was expected from this adaptation, but at least something more decent than what is offered.

I don't think it's as bad as people are making out, yeah it isn't quite up there with Spartacus, Rome and the effects are a bit iffy in places. Despite that I'm quite enjoying it.

After the first bad episode I wanted to give up watching, I'm glad I didn't, despite some historical errors, the series entertained me very well from episode 3 onwards, a good series despite some horrible CGI in some moments.

The show is okay. I watched it for the chariot races and gladiator fights. There wasn't much of the latter. For what it's worth, there's a lot of blood and people dying horribly. Also lots of nudity and sex. There was enough going on that I was entertained enough to keep watching. The one thing I really disliked was the amount of CGI used. It kind of ruined some scenes for me.

If you are interested in Roman history this is a great series. This is a MUST WATCH.

Maybe I was just expecting too much. It's been way too long since Rome and after the masterpiece that was Shogun I thought it was time for another big ancient Rome epic. But this looks like they saw the hype for Shogun and Gladiator 2 and slapped something together for the green screen in a month. Obviously that's hyberbole. But everything about this just looks so incredibly cheap. Like early 2000s SyFy tried to branch out into history. Even down to the acting. Let's hope at least the story can keep me entertained throughout the season...

Just downloaded the whole season,im hoping its gonna be as good as it sounds but peacock are not knowing for doing class tv shows.

The first episode is definitely the weakest of the show, once I was able to get passed that the rest of the show was really good.

potential for a great show here, but many of the most interesting characters get tossed aside by poor writing, and the often subpar acting combined with poor costuming, just makes it hard to care about.. mostly anything. and this is all worsened by some really poor CGI also, disappointed that it felt like the show was trying to standout as something notably queer, just to forget about all that in the last few episodes.

Woke world in a roman world ...

Easily one of the worst presentation cards for a decent show ever. The first episode feels like a kick in the gut and the retina, but once you set aside the awful CGI animals, you get a rather bold story with a pace that surprises you as much as any other frantic guilty pleasure. Wouldn't dare comparing it to Spartacus, let alone Rome, but set design, costumes and characterization do show for a lot more production value than the Asylum-level VFX initially let on.

Centering around a 'Peaky Blinders' like plot, gambling is all the creators of this show did. As expected from an 'Emmerich' production, everything from the script, characters and acting was soaked in exciting disappointment. Both rich like an emperor and poor like a slave, 'Those About To Die' either has expensive production and cheap writing, or penniless production with wealthy writing. Unfortunately, unlike 'Game of Thrones', or 'Peaky Blinders', this fails to create star-like characters. As spectacular as it might've gotten, I wouldn't want a season 2. At least they made it a 'fictional' fantasy scattered with sex and gore.

Tried to watch the first episod, couldn't finish this awful crap, I think they deceived the actors that the series will be like Game of Thrones, but in Ancient Rome.

I found this show greatly appreciated, good story and visuals despite some CGIs throughout the show, very enjoyable and quite worth watching if you like ancient history, different from the others show recently.

Of you want history, this takes some liberties, if you’re expecting fancy cgi, this isn’t it, of you want nonstop gladiator fights and no plot, this isn’t for you. It’s entertaining, a good story and doesn’t feel rushed like so many other 8-10 episode shows. You learn about almost every character to better understand how they got to where they are none seem to be there for no reason. It’s a good show, easy watch and concluded in a way that isn’t thrown together. I have watched 100%, I just delete my watch history.

Nigh Unwatchable. A great premise that misses the mark badly. Desperately wanted to love this, but the script completely betrayed the strong cast. The bad CGI and the historical inaccuracies can be forgiven if the show was entertaining, but that's impossible when you don't believe the characters or their motivations. Sometimes it was downright absurd. Was a massive waste of talent. Iwan Rheon has the chops to own a role like this, but instead of the powerful and shrewd manipulator they would have you believe he is, his character just felt kinda neutered. You couldn't ask for more from Sir Anthony's supporting role. He owns any scene he's in, but Sara Martins was a standout for me. Her role was the most believable out of the bunch, and I thought she added weight that wasn't even present in the script. This really could have been something special if all the actors had competent writing supporting them. Even being desperate for any Roman series couldn't forgive this weak sauce.

This was disappointing. Very repetitive. Chariot racing. Gladiator fight. Cala cries out of fear that one of her loved ones will die. Nude scene. Repeat.

This ends better than it starts. First few episodes I thought were alright, but really enjoyed it by the end. People have commented about the special effects and while they're fine for a tv show, there are a lot of them and they're far from perfect. I liked it. It's not Rome or Spartacus, but it's good.

I wont say this series is amazing. Is entertaining, is interesting, is nice, it's for passing the time. Nothing more, nothing less.

My initial impression from the first episode that this was rather cheap on all accounts proved true. And yet, I liked the performances of Iwan Rheon and Sara Martins who put some sparks of life into otherwise shallow and boring characters. Not much else can be praised though. Anthony Hopkins said a few lines of wisdom then was removed quickly. The VFX is indeed as bad as everyone else is saying, especially noticeable in backgrounds, crowds and beasts. The music is usually way to epic, sometimes even annoying. In the first few episodes some bush drums are being played whenever Moe Hashim comes on screen which is super cheesy. The way the showrunners integrate sexual content feels pretty weird as well. On the one hand, they have the extras show as many shaved male butts and female breasts as possible and on the other hand except the lead actors and actresses from showing private parts even in orgy scenes where everyone else is completely naked but them, who are conveniently always covered in clothes. Thats neither romantic nor erotic, just very artificial - just as the show overall. If you are interested in this setting, the show is good enough to run in the background while you are on your smartphone.

Seeing Anthony Hopkins I was hoping for a great show but unfortunately it's just not. Show is trying to be something like Rome or Spartacus but its missing on all fronts. There were few good actors, but some of them were just plain bad. The script is plain or 'cheap', mostly boring conversations, predictable story. The CGI is not good, and in all the cases rule should be: 'If you don't have money for top CGI, just don't do any CGI'. And for the end, we again are having gays and lesbians and their stories, like I give a f***. Just for that woke pushing in every tv show or a movie it drops in quality almost automatically because they are taking time and focus from an actual story to push their agenda we are not asking for or want.

In spite of high production values, Those About to Die is an historical fiction. This is sensationalist, blood soaked fare, that deviates, to often wide degrees, from historical fact. For viewers who are not bothered by historical considerations, its an okay watch but it does raise questions as to why there is a need to revise history, as its actually written. In summary, revisionist, classical history knock off, fictional action series.
