Calling it a romance is almost misleading. I guess it is romantic to the right person.

Because honestly, this whole thing just seems like a pedophile fantasy. Feels pretty gross.

Oooh no it's all predestined. 28-42 year old me, who's already married to this girl is gonna time travel to the time and place where she is 7, I have no choice or control over it. Better get to the grooming so that I can fulfill the self fulfilling prophecy marriage. Because whatever I do I can't change it. Oh and every time I time travel I'm naked too sorry.

All the arguments I've heard defending it like "he doesn't have a choice" etc. Is right up there with the anime "1000 year old god in a 10 year old body" excuse.

I know it's adapted from the book. I haven't read it, and I don't know if they presented this whole thing as a romance or a tragedy( I guess that would improve things?) but as of now the only conclusion here is that all of it was a conscious choice. They *could* have made it at least relatively normal, instead of repeatedly having a grown naked man meet a child, who becomes increasingly horny for him with every interaction.

@funkybuff27 She doesn't become increasingly horny for him while she is a child, it is only when she becomes a teenager and that is because he is a good looking guy. You can't honestly claim that if the roles were reversed, we wouldn't see the same thing occur. Also, he never has sex with her when she is a child. The reason why he is drawn to her past is because his powers are most likely tied to his subconscious, which would think mostly about the people who are close to him.

Also, it's not the older version of him that is having a romance with the kid version of her, because they don't kiss and they don't have sex.

@olilaz don't know what you mean. It would just as creepy and manipulative if the roles were reversed. A 40 year old woman going back in time naked to meet the 6 year old version of her current(?) husband. It's okay though, they're just spending time together while his entire libido forms around her(as the show states).

> You can't honestly claim that if the roles were reversed, we wouldn't see the same thing occur.

Is it realistic to show a teenage girl being convinced by an older gent that she can get into a relationship with him? Probably. As is evidenced by plenty of the real life counterparts from both genders, the victims are often made to believe that they're just more mature than the others, something most if not all of us were desperate to prove to ourselves when we were overflowing with hormones in our teens. But you can't possibly call that shit romantic would you? Most would just call it predatory.

And about the never has sex with her thing, I was being farcical I admit, but the latest episode dropped *that* bombshell and gave us the finger. Don't tell me you're gonna say its okay because she just turned 18. Fresh as they come amirite.

Sorry I took so long to reply. I only realised you commented because I got an email.

@funkybuff27 just standard recipe. Step by step keep showing something that is unacceptable. Every step stop making excuses a little more, to the point to finaly normalize it and get accepted by the crowed. In The Netherlands the pedophiles are the victims of a desease they can't do anything about it. They get police protection from anyone who wants to harm them.
Yet all privacy infringing laws are to catch pedophiles and terrorists.

I understand why you feel this way, but if you read the book you’d have an entirely different understanding. It’s a romantic tragedy of epic proportions. The book cleverly deals with the paradox of time travel, and the romance side of things makes sense in that Henry meets Claire for the first time when he is an adult - she meets him when she’s a child but that ties in to the reason he time travels. The book is spectacular. This adaptation was only so-so.

I started watching The Time Traveller's Wife last night. I loved the book and read it so many times i dogeared the copy I had.I hated the movie that came out some years back. Eric Bana and that Adams chick just didn't capture the characters for me.

Theo James though... oh gosh, he is Henry. He's absolutely Henry. Rose Leslie is a good actress, and she's doing a good job, I am not sure I like her as Claire. I'm not sure why, but she's just not fitting the picture I made in my head about this woman with guts and long love. I can't fault her acting though, she's doing a great job. But it's Theo doing it for me.

I honestly am yet to not like him in anything. I can't tell if I think he's pretty, or if he's a good actor or a bad actor. I just like watching him... he makes me believe every character I've seen him play. And say what, for me, he has definitely captured Henry's humor, his fear, his kindness, his ruthlessness, his wily cunningness, all of it... I particularly loved the scene with him and Rose Leslie
in The Stacks where Henry introduces Claire to his mother
.

Gosh... he totally sold me.

I read a half and half kind of review from a big outlet a couple of weeks ago, and was very surprised someone attempted this story again, and was totally prepared for another wan attempt, but no... I am really liking this.

This is definitely doing some justice to Niffenegger's beautiful love story.

The show features a romantic relationship that develops between a man and a woman who meet when the woman is a young child and the man is an adult.

I thought the show would be the story of the little girl's life as she grew up and sometimes had meetings with the older man. But the show is not the story of the girl's life. It's about him, not about her. It's just what happens to the older man when he has his moments of time travel and visits the girl. The only meaning in the girl's life are her future husband encounters.

If the show focused on the girl's full life, such as her parents finding out she met a naked man in the woods, it would show her as a well rounded character. That would make the show have more meaning. The woman needs to be her own person and it would be fun to watch her grow up from a child over time.

Unfortunately, this show is on streaming internet instead of over-the-air TV and it has limited episodes. It doesn't have time for anything to develop that doesn't involve the man.

The male lead has the charisma and looks to pull off his role well and the woman is a good actress. They are just trapped in a flawed show.
