Just watched this on Gofobo's nationwide screening, and, in spite of the insertion of a couple of unnecessary and EXTREMELY awkward SJW meme references, I really did enjoy this "film". Yes, it was essentially a hodgepodge of all the usual psychopath / serial killer, and feisty "final girl" not gonna be a victim tropes, with a supporting cast of your basic useful idiots to move the story along, but SOMEHOW it works without being trite. And surprisingly, there were quite a few yelling at the screen moments to elevate your heart rate, even though you've seen them all before.

Maika Monroe is well cast as Claire, although I spent the first 20 minutes trying to figure out which OTHER actress it was she was channeling, but, not being able to put my finger on it, I just gave up and enjoyed her performance. Dane Dehaan is creepily believable as the Geek squad Uber/ Lyft passenger from hell, while Avan Jogia is the would be white, er..., brown knight that goes all in when he should have folded, but, gives the outing some heart, and hope.

Normally this would be seen on Quibi's short form 10 minute episode format, and, IDK if I would spent the time coming back over several days to catch each episode. But in the screenings uninterrupted format, "The Stranger" is compelling enough to sit through, with a predictable but not telegraphed ending, especially the instrument(s) of the final demise.
