10 minutes ???? There is something wrong
To be honest I’m glad this got canceled. I don’t know what Mike Flanagan wanted to tap into the teenage goosebumps market, but obviously he did, and it was pretty weak. The show is ok, and it’s worth a watch if your a Mike Flanagan fan, but I think this will be something he looks back on and regret.
This show has some moments but overall it feels like a Disney teen show. The acting and story is just very odd and it could be a 90s show that I would find on TV on Disney or similar. I do enjoy it but when compared to other shows Flanagan has made on Netflix it is a big let down and if I didn't know it was made by him I would have guessed.
I haven't finished it yet, casting and acting is quite poor tho. Spencer's actor made me want to skip all his scenes, the scene with his mother was atrocious. Some other are doing a better job, but yeah, maybe a couple. The little stories are cute, but the main plot for the moment is kinda boring (I am at episode 8).
[Netflix] As with many stories featuring teens, the inability to give them a believable voice is disappointing. Once again, this short stories anthology series, that builds a main plot to stretch it out to exhaustion, offers implausible dialogues of fifteen-year-olds talking as if they were thirty years old. And it reflects on life and death through characters who don't have a solid life experience.
A teenage story for teenager. One of the lowest point in the Flanagan's entire career. I am so disappointed.
What really held this show together was the characters, most of them are pretty well acted and likeable but damn that main plot is pretty weak, some of the short stories they tell eachother are nothing short of flat out boring (some good ones in there too though). Also that ending makes the journey so pointless, one of the more disappointing finales I've seen. Love Mike Flanagan and I do think there are some things to like about this show for sure, but this is his weakest project that I've seen from him so far.
I've been an avid fan of Mike Flanagan's ever since I happily stumbled upon "The Haunting of Hill House" back in 2018... After which I immediately made sure to watch his whole body of work. I love how philosophical, creative, and different each new project of his is, so I knew I wouldn't be disappointed by this one. Truth is, even though death and loss have been recurring themes throughout his writing and filmmaking, I always find that he's able to spin them in such a way that the final result ends up being soothing and reassuring... And I'm writing this while going through a hard time in my life, so I'm especially grateful that "The Midnight Club" came out when it did. Yes, I _adore_ the horror elements in his stories, but, somehow, the message that we're not alone in the world - neither in life nor death - is what really stays with me after I finish each binge-watching session
It's too bad when a good show is absolutely ruined by making the main character into a complete asshole. Why would we ever want this girl to succeed? She ruins the lives of everyone just because she think she's special, it's infuriating. Why does anyone in the show like her?? She gives them no reason to!
Horror? No. Just boring. Really boring. Like trying to be drama but just cringe. With blacks and woke stuff because it's mainstream now. This idea could be so good. But it's not. Boring.
In hindsight this show masks the Netflix formula quite well and made me feel quite duped for watching all of it with it's non-conclusion... As indicated by the main cast this is more of a young adult type of show but it's OK for what is is in earlier episodes. As the show progresses it starts to loose the balance between the "mysteries" they've setup and the drama and sometimes quite pointless and lame stories the club tells themselves (which brings pretty much all progression to halt).
This is a fascinating creepy mystery show. Teenagers, who should be discovering what life is and how to live it, instead having to grapple with their mortality. It's a bit uneven, as some episodes are wonderful and some just ok, but overall, it is quite enjoyable.
6,5 :green_heart: ==So this is a mix between a teenager and horror show==. Combined together you get “The Midnight Club” which has a decent amount of scares. Throughout the show you can see that this goes a little beyond our typical teen show, it deals with pain, suffering, powerlessness and worst - that time is running short for them. The horror part is well done, the stories they tell at midnight end up being a distorted view from their previous life, a life they had before going to Brightcliff and before knowing their fate. ==It got me involved in their stories and feeling sympathy for each and everyone of them==. It’s hard thinking about the end but they didn’t had a choice. The actors were okay, I loved Igby and William, both actors were the one who stood out the most, and Iman, the main actor was amazing. ==It wasnt the best show ever but I liked it and it killed time (no pun intended). If you like the teen+scares combination, give this one a try==
:heart:x7 So this is a mix of 2 types of shows. First we have an anthology show wrapped in a drama/thriller. At first I was annoyed by the anthology side of the show. I found it to be unnecessary and distracting, but I eventually warmed up to it. By the end of the first season we end up with several solid stories as well as a lot of unanswered questions. Which hoipefully will lead us to season 2. How I rate: 1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time 4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this 7-8  = I expect you will like this too 9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
Cute little horror Netflix show. For the Stranger Things crowd.
I liked this a lot. it's wonderful, it's emotional, and the actors are great! I wish it had a bit more resolution, and I think it would have been better as a limited series rather than a regular series.
