If only the rest of the show was like the first episode. But no. What a waste of money doing this.

It’s rare that a show makes me cry, and it’s rare that a show makes me want to rewatch it the second I’ve finished it. This show is both of those for me and I’m so happy it exists.

Criminally underappreciated by this site. You truly cannot judge this without watching the entire thing, which is the case with most miniseries, but especially the case here. Everything comes together by the end, and even the "worst" parts of the show end up being crucial and having much more weight when viewed as part of the larger whole. That said, the second episode is by far the worst one. The story just requires a lot of work to be done in order to get to where it's going, and that, unfortunately, means you have to have a little faith in the payoff to make it through the beginning of what appears to be a much less interesting setting and narrative with the second episode. It takes until around episode 5 for the true payoff to start shining through. If you liked The Leftovers, have faith and stick with this! One of the very best miniseries I have ever seen.

So goddamn boring. I was literally falling asleep throughout. I had to go walk around and splash cold water on my face to stay awake.
(And I watched the entire season thinking Jeevan is played by Kunal Naayar. :P )

This is after watching the first two episodes:

This show is definitely in the running for most boring show 2021.

It is amazing though, post-apocalyptic scenes are hard to screw up with anything other than bad acting.
They managed to get decent actors, but the script is so bad, that it doesn't matter.

Its not even that the characters are bad, but honestly - all the stuff that could be interesting (
like crossing lake michigan
)we only get told about.

I'll give it one more episode, but if the tune doesn't change hard, I guess that will be it for me.

@player8472 I feel the same about this boooring show, i love tv shows, scify, but this show makes no sense for me. After watching the first boring episodes I quit. Even Mackenzie Davies makes me yawn all the time.

@player8472 keep watching… It’s like good single malt you have to develop a taste fort and by the end of the first few rounds you won’t be able to go back.

as good as Lost's character development and story, much of the time. except, since this is a limited story (based on a book), it's doesn't go meandering around forever trying to figure out what its own ending is going to be. it has its ending in its sites, and carries it out well enough. great actors and acting.

"Based on a novel" sets the tone for storylines and characters that make sense. As for the rest, crafted well enough to draw one in for the long run.

And Mackenzie Davis...

This is a very beautiful miniseries. We're still suffering from COVID, so doing a series about a virus that creates a post apocalyptic world seems too soon, but this is the show I think a lot of us need right now. It reminds us how people try to create art in a world that no longer makes sense. Amazing visuals from Hiro Murai and his team, but also kudos the maestro behind it all, Patrick Somerville who has once again given us an amazing and wild limited series (he did Maniac too!). Performance wise, I think Matilda Lawler deserves some recognition for playing a kid who's confronted with a mature situation and just speaking volumes with the most minor of facial expressions. And of course Himesh Patel in one astounding supporting performance (his whole arc with Lawler are some of the most warm moments I've seen on TV). And Danielle Deadwyler deserves some recognition too for her small but powerful bits as the creator of the world these characters become obsessed with. Oh and get Mackenzie Davis some Emmy love since she was ignored for all those great years on Halt and Catch Fire.

@pedrobarragan237 Completely agree about Matilda Lawler, easily the best actor/actress in the show. I’d include her performances in my TOP 3 emotional moments list, every item on it. I really hope she’ll stay interested in acting as she grows up. Her career should be worth following.

I surprised myself when I realized I’d place Danielle Deadwyler as the second best actor/actress. I was fascinated by her soft-spoken but firm determination from the moment she was introduced. I think it may be because I see myself something like that, or a lot like that. Her storyline worked well, too, and she could have used even some more screen time.

@zelroy Oh man! She's amazing. Her solo episode (the third one where we see she ended up in the Thailand hotel) was amazing, and thanks to it I now listen to the "I'd Rather Go Blind" 24/7. Her last bit where she's in the world she created was amazing! Definitely someone I hope to see more of in the future, hopefully in whatever Patrick Somerville does next. I just edited it to include praise for her. Thanks for bringing her name up.

Someone compared this show to _The Leftovers_ in another comment and I will do the same. I remember _The Leftovers_ had slow start as well but ended up being a masterpiece by the series finale, I hope this show does the same. I didn't realize the creator, Patrick Somerville (https://trakt.tv/people/patrick-somerville?sort=released,asc), also wrote for _The Leftovers_. I am 5 epidoes in and looking forward to seeing how this plays out.

Nope not liking this. Far too slow and the shakespeare stuff in this just made me switch it off. For a first episode... nope. Maybe if you stick with it it'll get better. I have no issue with shakespeare but I'm not looking for it in a post apocalyptic show nor the slow pace.

I love the concept of the story and loving the characters.
I like how the story is developing, but the constant jumps are trying. I understand it was a success in a movie and then in a show and now everyone does the same, it's really annoying imo.

all in all it kept me wanting to see more, so I hope it keeps getting better.

Oh man, I got so excited because of episode one, I thought it was going to be an apocalypse show, which it is. But then it turned into some like drama or dystopian show, skipped right to like 20 years later. Not a bad show at all, but just not what I expected and hoped it would be.

This series started out slow. Very slow. But as you continue to watch, weaving in and out of character storylines, as well as time before, immediately after, and 20yrs after, you can start to see the beauty in the overall story.
And by the time the final episode comes rolling around .... No! I'm not crying! . . . You are!

How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

Well I watched it.... still trying to understand it. I'm not hooked, as I can see myself becoming frustrated! If you liked/loved LOST the TV show, you will probably enjoy this. Each episode reveals another a small piece of jigsaw storyline. Not for me, as I can find faster pace TV shows to enjoy. I guess it will either be cancelled or become a cult TV show (Like LOST).

@daniel-e-jones-me-com Comparing this to lost is unfair (to Lost).

In Lost there was some "action" within the first episodes.
This Show is a sleeping pill in comparison.

Station Eleven rewards patience, but that's a big ask for the cellphone / social media generation. Story progression within an episode is sluggish and it requires an alert mind to notice the important little things you'll probably miss if you're feeling bored. Throw Lost and The Leftovers in a blender, add a very mild hallucinogen, mix well, and pour out a nice glass of Station Eleven. Enjoy, but drink slowly. The taste is subtle, but the kick will be stronger than you think.
