The origins of the Kumaon Regiment traces back to the 18thcentury and it continues to recruit its jawans from the Kumaon division. The regiment has played a key role in the two World Wars, and other major campaigns of the British Indian Army and the Indian Army. On November 18, 1962, during the Batte of Rezang La, 120 men of C Company of 13 Kumaon, commanded by Maj. Shaitan Singh made a last stand at the pass.
