Promised a Horror Thriller, Delivered a Philosophy Class at the End:

This anime follows Shinichi Izumi, who loses control of his right hand to a parasite that attempts to take over his brain. It explores how Shinichi and the parasite coexist while encountering other humans who have also become hosts to different parasites.

Before watching this anime, I expected a gripping horror thriller with unexpected twists and turns. The story started strong when the parasite failed to take over Shinichi's brain and instead took control of his right arm. As they learn to understand each other as different species, they deal with their contrasting views while working together to hunt down other parasites that are massacring humans for food and survival—a premise that is both well-crafted and effectively conveyed.

Murano, Shinichi's love interest, is portrayed reasonably well as she questions his behavior throughout the story. The other parasites are depicted uniquely, each with different perspectives, which adds depth to the villains. The government’s response to the parasites, identifying them as threats and executing them, is also well-executed. The series successfully captures high emotions with its characters at various critical moments.

However, the anime suffers from repetitive scenes; we see Shinichi getting bullied multiple times, another girl attempting to win his affection, and the cycles of conflict and reconciliation between Murano and Shinichi with her continually questioning his identity. The story stagnates at several points, dragging out certain elements. The ending feels mediocre, with the final episode feeling unnecessary as it dedicates itself to preaching philosophy about respecting all forms of life and coexisting peacefully on Earth. While this message could have been integrated throughout the series as the characters evolved, it feels like it was abruptly dropped at the end instead.

I found the voice acting to be good in the English dub, and the animation was commendable, showcasing characters, parasites, locations, and action sequences effectively. The music was minimal but fitting.

In conclusion, I am left unimpressed by this anime due to its execution. I cannot recommend it, especially after the disappointing final episode.
