Where to Watch

Overview

In a land controlled by feudal barons, a great warrior and a young boy embark on a journey across a dangerous land to find enlightenment. A genre-bending martial arts series very loosely based on the classic Chinese tale Journey to the West.

Initially, I thought this was just some martial arts action series, but then a character'#39;s eyes became luminous and his fighting skills were briefly '#39;enhanced'#39; -- I was instantly hooked. I usually fast-forward through fight scenes and gun battles -- not in this show, amazingly choreographed sequences not to be missed. Great story, except there wasn'#39;t enough of it :-) If there were only to be 5 episodes, it would'#39;ve played better for me as a miniseries with plot resolution and a hint of potential continuation. Didn'#39;t care for the multi-pronged cliffhanger finale -- I liked the episode, just not they way they ended things. The actor who plays M.K. seemed miscast, I think David Mazouz (Gotham'#39;s young Bruce Wayne) would'#39;ve been perfect in that role. Regardless, still loved the show :-)

Storywise it is not the greatest thing, but damn the martial arts scenes are incredibly well done and make up for it! If you like the fighting genre (IP Man) you will definitly enjoy this, otherwise you should probably skip this. Daniel Wu and the Barons are of interest, the other characters are shallow imo

I really enjoyed this pilot episode, its great to see more martial arts implemented into TV shows. The story (the pieces we know so far) are intriguing and i can honestly say i was entertained throughout the whole first episode. The colours in this show just pop, lets see if the rest of the season can hold up.

Do not waste your time with this piece of shit wrapped up in a shiny paper. The writing, the dialogue, the entire direction of the show, were absolute shit-tier. The fighting was pretty damn good in the 1st season. But most of the fights were bending physics harder than a Chinese martial arts movie, some looked straight up goofy. Good visuals, decent acting, and good camera work. That'#39;s about it.

i was searching for serie like this and now i found it. this one is better than GOT 'amp; TWD all together. love Daniel Wu

This one is on my top list at the moment. It feels like every moment in episodes are filled with action...as for the story some like some not..Its not new and not the greatest I'#39;ve seen but its a still pretty damn decent one.

Mix of Revolution (2012), Magic City (2012) and Kings (2009) which all got canceled. I dropped it after 20 minutes because it was boring and didnt have anything original. Maybe it'#39;s for people who like Superhero series, /shrug. This costume drama is too expensive not to be canceled for it'#39;s relatively small target audience. If you liked the pilot do yourself a pleasure and put this series on pause untill it concludes , most likely not going to happen, waste of time and money. Not having a white guy as lead also isnt helping the series.

I feel like the first season was the peak of the show with the second season being very close to the peak. The storyline in the second half of the third season, I feel like it ruined the season. I also think the second half was unnecessary as well. It would'#39;ve been better off having eight episodes instead of sixteen. And even then, I think the first season having only six episodes was perfect. They made the wrong choice by having the second and third season having more episodes than that. I get it. They wanted to add more plotlines, characters, mythology, that sort of thing. But I feel like more episodes prevented those things from being utilized to their full potential. Longer episodes, like over an hour long, with only six episodes to each season would'#39;ve been a better play. Obviously, that'#39;s not how it happened and what is, is. If this show ends up getting picked up by a different network, I think longer episodes and better writing could really make it great.

Spoilers
This serise has bad ending 'amp; bad plot, The black eyes in first and second sessions they was powerful and unkillable, in session three, army of them defeated easily, and the Master is another story, i was very disappointed, she was too waek in session 3, with all that knowledge and experience in how to use the black eyes, she killed like a normal one
. Overall it was interesting and enjoyable Show.

Just watch season 1 and 2. Forget 3 ever existed.

If you're into physics defying fight scenes / martial arts / choreographies then this show is definitely for you. Anybody else: *don't bother*. Acting is mostly awful if not straight abysmal (MK), with exceptions like Stephen Lang (the man in the wheel chair) who is sadly only a minor side character. Story telling is basically non-existent, you're thrown into the world with nearly no explanations at all. Even in a 6 part mini series you could do a much better job than this. There's an intrigue running with many sides, what's not even interesting or good explained and only background noise for the fights. Similar with the world order of barons as factions ruling people / areas, only background noise. Due to being thrown into this without any (explicit) explanation, the establishing of characters is non-existent as well. The show fails to make you care for any character and for whom you should root for. Forgettable characters overall. There's no reason for me to care for a mass murderer like Sunny to get out of the badlands. Plans to do something are almost never explained, like giving all women a voice. How to achieve that? No clue, but the ninja fighting is cool... It's understandable that Sunny wants to get out of the badlands with his pregnant girlfriend but that's it where the show stops making sense. Basically everything is incredibly vague. Perhaps because there's too much: feminism, a family intrigue where the son betrays the father, the most loyal fighter betraying his master, the wunderkind story, the escape for a better life story, teenage love, love triangle between baron, his wife and his side-wife. Pretty messy. A show lacking in many aspects, ending on a few deus ex machina and an attempt of letting the possibility for a full season or second mini season open. The really interesting things and questions are never explained *at all*. Ehh.
