After causing a major incident, police officer Daigo Agawa takes his wife and daughter to live in the remote mountain village of Kuge. It seems the perfect place to recover from the ordeal, despite the mysterious disappearance of a previous officer posted there. One day, the body of an old woman is found on the mountain. The Goto family says she was attacked by a bear, but Daigo notices a human bite mark. It soon becomes clear that not all is as it seems in the village.

[Disney+] An excellent series of horror genre that is at the same time a family drama that reflects on coexistence with ancient traditions in rural areas of the interior of Japan. By creating a gloomy atmosphere that becomes more stifling as the story unfolds, the director manages to show violence without being gruesome. There is more tension and suspense than brutality, but when it appears it does so explicitly. It contributes the good work of the leading actor Yûya Yagira, who was given his first opportunity as an actor by Hirokazu Koreeda in "Nobody Knows" (2004).

The story is unique but then the pacing of the series makes it dull sometimes. At one point I thought the climax was coming but then the buildup stopped all of a sudden, leaving me with confusion and immense disappointment.
