Definitely a show suffering from the great mind behind the show leaving very early on.
The meddling around behind the scenes really introduced conceptual issues on this show, affecting the characters in a bad way.
Considering how much Fuller could do with ideas, he gets, that really is a shame.
Advertised as a comedy I didn't particularly found this fitting at any point of the show.
There were funny scenes, sure, but the focus lies more on, uhm, drama, questioning "what is life" kind of thing, I guess.

The show itself is very enjoyable, though. I wanted to watch it back then when it aired in Germany but I never really got around to do so (thankfully, the synchronization is abysmal at best, just as the CGI).
While it is enjoyable, it does have several issues that can't be simply overlooked. The main issue would be the downright hostility of one of the main characters. Now this could be due to his backstory or what not but often times he was simply mean to be mean and that were scenes I really disliked about the show. Other characters are pretty often very mean as well.
Additionally early on one of the more likeable characters was replaced by a for the most part incredibly unlikeable character.
Now, that character may have just been there to show the consequences of a grim reaper "taking the leap" s/he's not supposed to. At least sort of, well, not really. But still.
Other issues include major inconsistencies. Rube always tells the grim reapers shouldn't take part in life, they should be bystanders, not getting recognized or even acknowledged, yet they do as soon as they take a job somewhere, especially Roxy's job comes to mind leading to issues with that. Early on in the series it was made very clear, the death of people can't be prevented and that it has to do with a sort of balance that must be uphold where the bystander thing ties into, so that grim reapers have to do what they are supposed to.
The problem here is especially later on, at the end of S1/beginning of S2 this is discarded. The grim reapers more often than not are the sole reason and therefore responsible for the deaths they are assigned to reap.
Like they talk to the people, who are supposed to die, and suggest ideas they should do before death, they do these things and die because of that.
It's contrary to the show and the basics it lay early on. With Fuller still on this show this wouldn't have happened, I'd assume.
Another big issue is the environment, or more precise the people in that environment. It seems totally fine for people to die and is usually not a big deal, just as it is no big deal of having a grim reaper standing there talking to a ghost that's invisible or physically interacting with it to the people around. No one ever pays attention for script reasons and I always found this mind boggling.
Sometimes you even realize the people are just waiting for the actors to say their lines and don't even pretend to be shocked or whatever by a sudden death. It's absurd. The directing is terrible here.
The cast itself isn't the best, but they grow on you. The best character from the beginning would be Mason, the only believeable character overall. If this show would ever get a reboot (with Fuller) I wouldn't mind an _entire_ recast, though.

A nice thing is the ridicolous amount of recurring minor Stargate characters appearing here (both MGM shows, afterall).
Maybourne, the SG stunt director who had several appearances as different characters like the young General Hammond for example, Harriman, one of the main scientific doctors in SGA, the doctor in SGA who replaced Dr. Beckett, Dr. Frasier. Some more not-recurring characters but these I remember specifically.
Plus that little girl in the train, George's first reap, who is now in Dark Matter, that's written by two long-time Stargate writers.
Didn't even relize that Rube is/was in Homeland, I didn't recognize him without the beard at all, although he seemed very familiar.
Or the English voice of Lisa Simpson, Yeardley Smith. Guest appearances are numerous. I liked that.
