I chose to watch this as a celebration the talent of the late Dame Maggie Smith. What I didn’t expect was for it to be a treasure chest of stellar performers. With each new character you run into a veteran actor. It is a feast of talent portraying a classic of English literature. I was interested to learn that the book is considered to be semi-autobiographical of Charles Dickens own life, which brings a gravitas to the story. It’s a series of two 90 minute parts and it made a thoroughly enjoyable evening. I give this series an 8 (thoroughly enjoyable) out of 10.

This really is a star studded cast with the late Dame Maggie Smith. The scripts were well written and really one of the few I've watched that sticks close to the novel. I really enjoyed it. Honestly I think it needed three episodes, as I think a couple of the better parts of the book were rushed through, but it divided it in a fair way that you could watch one without the other. 8 out of 10.
