Way less cheesy special effects than the preceding miniseries.

Books aside, this one is marginally better overall than the 2000 production of Dune. As an adaptation, however, it still leaves a lot to be desired and I tend to be fairly forgiving where adaptations are concerned given the difficulty of translating very rich source material to a much more confined medium. That being said, neither of the miniseries has managed to relate the themes of religion, philosophy, and political intrigue sufficiently and remain surface level sci fi action stories.

Looks better in certain areas but still small budget. I liked the story of the first series more.
