This can be a little bit of an uneven production. This series was conceived to be epic on the scale of GAME OF THRONES or THE LORD OF THE RINGS using Asian folklore to craft the universe, but, the forging of the distinct worlds was rather ham-handed, filled with anachronisms and poor internal logic. Sometimes those missing or lazy errors were so glaring that it took me out of the story. It took me awhile to warm up to the series, BUT, the cinematography was stunning, filled with beautiful locations and well curated shots. The characters were relatable and interesting, and the acting, for the most part, was very good. The characters became better drawn, the acting was faithful, and the story and court politics were intriguing. I loved that on the micro levels there were personal machinations but on the global level there were duelling world views. I give the series an 8 (novel world building) out of 10.
