A goofy kid’s film, _We’re Back! A Dinosaur’s Story_ is a little too juvenile for most audiences. The story follows a group of dinosaurs that are given a brain enhancing food by a time-traveler who then transports them to the 20th century to entertain children at the New York Museum, and along the way they make friends with two children who are running off to join the circus. The casting is fairly impressive, featuring the voice talents of John Goodman, Yeardley Smith, Jay Leno, Martin Short, and Walter Cronkite. However, the writing is rather poor and is extremely heavy handed. And the animation isn’t very good; looking dark and grungy. It may entertain the kiddies, but _We’re Back! A Dinosaur’s Story_ aims too low to be enjoyed by anyone else.

It would seem like the target audience is 2-8 years old based on running time and dialogue. The plot is preposterous and relies on some child-like magical thinking. Children will probably like it, especially if they crave dinosaur movies. Although, there are some pretty creepy sections that will provide some great nightmare fuel. The voice acting may keep adults interested with many huge hitters, some of which never do movies, like Walter Cronkite and Julia Child. Whenever Walter Cronkite speaks you can't but be amazed even though what he's saying is pretty ridiculous. The animation looks dirty and sometimes has some sketch lines. Graphics that are overlayed over other drawings are often done digitally with apparent blocky pixel edges. Many of the voices have a lot of reverb like they weren't even recorded in a sound studio. The target audience is never going to notice these technical errors though.
