Overview

A message from Jim Morrison in a dream prompts cable access TV stars Wayne and Garth to put on a rock concert, "Waynestock," with Aerosmith as headliners. But amid the preparations, Wayne frets that a record producer is putting the moves on his girlfriend, Cassandra, while Garth handles the advances of mega-babe Honey Hornée.

Why did they make a second part?

As ever so often, the second part is less good than the first, but it is has not slipped off too far. Still a good comedy that just lacks the novel effect of the first one. For fans.

Not sure this has aged well particular, definitely more so than the first which is still very blessed. It's a film thats definitely wackier than its predecessor and some of it really lands and some of it does not. I enjoyed the old anime dubbing with the fight and the references to the dream sequences with the random indian along with dead musicians but all of this combined does make it feel maybe too much of a product of its time and feels too dated in a sense that more of the light hearted and easy comedy in the first one feels a lot more accessible. Another aspect that weakens in this one is that the it references heavily on the graduate and thelma and louise which aren't as well known as they were in 1993 whereas in the first one it referenced Terminator 2 which has definitely held up pop culture wise. I like the Waynestock storyline although it doesn't really end up anywhere and the bobby character felt like a retread of Rob Lowe's character in the first one but much creepier and the fact that Alexandra just went with it because of her father gives of sexist tones and possibly racist tones which again wasn't really seen in the first one. I could go on about Garth's side story about the model he goes out with or the endless roadie schtick they had but it just wasn't very interesting and frankly just left me disappointed. I don't hate this movie but its just not at all comedically tight as the first one and just doesn't feel the same. I'm glad there wasn't really a third one because I think Mike Myers lost his mojo on his films until Austin Powers 2 (ironically when Austin Powers loses his mojo), although I don't hate the first Austin Powers. I wouldn't really recommend this film but I can't hate it because theres still stuff there I do enjoy outside of the plot and mixed themes. 4/10
