I was already aware that gang rapes are a huge problem in certain parts of India. The documentary 'To Kill a Tiger' focuses on a single victim of gang rape. The film follows the seemingly hopeless struggle of the girl's family for justice. It also provides interesting insights into life in India's rural regions.

However, the movie is not for the faint of heart; the description of the crime and its consequences, as well as the apparent indifference with which many react to it, make you downright angry. Some of the victim-blaming is almost unbearable from a more Western perspective. It will be interesting to see how much the film will really contribute to the fight against the problem in the long term, but it definitely already succeeds in giving the victims a face. Accordingly, this is a very important movie overall.
