It'#39;s not often I enjoy a film with such constant tonal shifts throughout, but I did with this one. The film essentially made me laugh, made me emotive and made me think - which is all a viewer can ask for really. Right from the extraordinary opening monologue, the film grabs the viewer and reels you into the heady mix of comedy and tragedy. Some are going to hate this movie because of that. There are moments of black comedy placed into scenes of real drama - which shouldn'#39;t really work. But it does. For me at least. The focus is on single parenting, life, stress, happiness, anxiety, metal health, love. Jim Cummings wrote, directed and starred in it - and you can tell he totally believed in this project by the performance he puts in. Although he can possibly be accused of overracting at times, he is quite brilliant at others. There are some flawed moments - some real '#34;wtf'#34; scenes with a potential dealbreaking third act. The placement of comedy is the talking point in many places. But overall I would recommend this movie for those who are suckers for an indie dramedy. 7.5 / 10.
Who knew that watching someone slap the shit out of a dead body would bring me so much joy
A dark comedy which is all dark and no comedy. It'#39;ll get under your skin like the jagged edge of a tuna tin lid and hurt you because it'#39;s cutting. Thanks to the meticulous madness of writer / director / actor Jim Cummings, _Thunder Road_ gets better every time you remember it.
Brilliant drama. Fucking magnificent acting. Personally I just can't with the cringe humor but I understand the idea of it for a different audience. Good thing it tones down in the second half. And I'm so glad I didn't watch it in a theatre with people having nervous laughs at every vulnerable moment.
You had me at "Should we just call the manufacturer?"
Not sure what the movie was trying to be but this was the most depressing "comedy" I've ever seen. Good acting and beautiful ending though, maybe I'll appreciate it more when I grow up.
This is an odd one. It'#39;s a personal train wreck that you won'#39;t want to look away from, regardless of how uncomfortable it makes you feel to keep watching. Some scenes could be quite funny... if they weren'#39;t so brutally tragic. Seeing someone break down in such a spectacular fashion (especially in two very charged scenes) is difficult, but how it is done lets you in on how our protagonist is trying to deal with the curveballs life has thrown his way. The third act 'amp; ending are unfortunately the weakest parts of the film, feeling a bit too... easy... or convenient... in comparison to the rest of the film. But if you want something darkly offbeat, this should satisfy that craving.
An original little film that is both funny and sad, often at the same time. A standout performance from director-star Cummings too.
Jim Cummings gave an outstanding performance
Jim Cummings is very good. Those long takes are pretty incredible.
This film is a short that was converted into a full-length film. The beginning of the film is actually the short and it is really really well done. The lead gives a fantastic one-take performance that goes on for several minutes. During his eulogy he is shown to be caring, confused, lonely and fragile. It really felt like there was a start to a good film and I was all in. And then.... he is just kind of shifted from scene to scene being the same character. I can see why the movie got decent reviews - it is equal parts quirky ,funny and moving. But I think there is a difference - there can be a good movie that is quirky and funny and then there can be a movie that is quirky and funny trying desperately to be a good film. The end of the film is decent but I was really looking at my watch towards the middle. The acting was good but it felt like the film was somewhat amateurish. follow me at https://IHateBadMovies.com
