I am ambivalent about this George Pal effort from the 1950s. I like the SFX, the Martian craft design and sticking with the original story's reason for the invasion's failure. I don't like the Christian overtones at the end. As an example of 1950's sci-fi however, it is a classic and rated accordingly.

A very good version of the classic H.G. Wells story. The suspense is assured and the special effects are pretty good for the period.

The film is entertaining, but in my opinion it could be improved. The special effects are spectacular and I don't criticize them, in fact, they fascinate me. But, unlike the novel, which had a more scientific point of view, the film has a strong emphasis on religion. Maybe in the 1950s it was no More
