Used to be a pretty big Spongebob fan so this movie came out at the perfect time for me to enjoy it! Very funny and colourful!

Easily the best of the three movies with plenty of laughs and charm.

I was on a voice call with my sweetheart and mentioned I watched this, and he asked me what it was about, and I got to the ‘plan A to Y’ part before he told me to stop, he had to watch it with me because it sounded too funny, so a ringing endorsement.

Tight, distilled SpongeBob. Everything great about this show is delivered in a perfect package. The wit, the silliness, the wry tongue in cheek awareness. It’s no wonder the show never reached these heights again: there was nowhere to go but down. Hillenberg did everything he wanted to with it, and the movie was the capstone to it all. To watch this movie is to have a constant smile for an hour and a half.

Another childhood favourite of many who’s internet acclaim by nostalgic millenials might even be more overblown than Raimi’s Spider-man. It’s an ok movie, but having no sense of nostalgia for the show myself, it’s hard to get a lot out of it. The absurdist humour and slapstick are primarily aimed at children, this clearly isn’t going for that Pixar balance. They throw a couple of bones towards adults (particularly the scenes involving King Neptune), but most of the comedy is pretty dumb and infantile. The plot’s alright, it’s not trying to reinvent the wheel and that’s fine. I’ve always really liked the design of the world and characters, but the technical execution is nothing special (especially compared to stuff Pixar and Ghibli were doing around this time, or Disney during its renaissance period).

5/10

An extremely good adaption of the show, with a fun plot with some great stakes. Let down a bit by the exclusion of certain characters and slightly weaker humor than the show's early seasons.

I used to watch this movie all the damn time on VHS, so of course watching it again nearly 16 years later, I’m overwhelmed with the nostalgia. I’m totally gonna buy a VHS copy of this movie and hold it as my treasure.

Aside from that, obviously this movie is a MUST-WATCH for all SpongeBob fans like me.

Just as fun, colorful and excitable as I remember it! Watched it with friends and everyone loved it. This movie really is enjoyable at all ages.
