Along with "The Rocketeer", this one's also one of the unfortunately widely underrated films. Certainly not a milestone in film history, but a good and entertaining flick to watch with a bag of popcorn.

“Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!” A campy, noirish film, _The Shadow_ is entertaining and action-packed. Based on the 1930s radio show, the story follows Lamont Cranston, who fights crime as the masked vigilante The Shadow by clouding the minds of men with illusions, but he meets his match when a descendant of Genghis Khan attempts to destroy New York City. Alec Baldwin, Penelope Ann Miller, and Ian McKellen lead the cast, but they don’t seem that comfortable with the material. And the film itself has an inconsistent tone; as the mixture of comedy and action doesn’t really work that well. Yet despite its problems, _The Shadow_ is a unique and interesting superhero film.

It's decent and enjoyable as a period piece movie from the golden age of superheroes, even if not flawless. The plot is uneven, and they make some corny and strange choices, but the action and special effect scenes are great considering when they were made, and the characters often surprisingly avoid the cliches common for that decade of movies, particularly with Lamont Cranston (Baldwin's character).

The Shadow is directed by Russell Mulcahy and is based on the character of the same name created by Walter B. Gibson. It stars Alec Baldwin in the title role and support comes from John Lone, Penelope Ann Miller, Peter Boyle, Ian McKellen & Tim Curry. It's written by Da More

A tongue-in-cheek nostalgic throwback to the thirties and forties. Love the style, the imagery and the period. Heaps of fun!

_**Genghis Khan’s descendant intrudes upon The Shadow’s urban world in 1930**_

After some kind of epiphany and receiving training in Tibet in the 20s, Lamont Cranston (Alec Baldwin) fights corruption in New York City in 1930-31 as the mysterious Shadow. When the last descendant of Genghis Kha More

Alec Baldwin is horribly miscast as a sly, spooky vigilante in this spring-loaded combo pack of adventures culled from the old Shadow radio programs and pulp magazines. In many ways it's a spiritual successor to Big Trouble in Little China, in that it's self-parodying, ridiculous and shamele More
