I got it. The mundane routines of life and all that. It was too obvious, forced and repetitive in the visualisations. There is a reason that close ups on things like spilt petrol (oh art) are boring. Because they're boring. Realism? Like when you push to be so real that it becomes to amplified and there's nothing real about it. These people act like aliens. Aliens who have no ability to have some fun because the movies wants to be as bleak as possible. No need for explanation. Who needs it when you get to see stuff like a grown man cry at the dinner table for the sake of edgy realism.
Sure you can search for the meaning in the movie and fill in some blanks for the film maker with symbolism (because that's never been done before or elevate art movies hmm Lynch), but even the messages you'll find will be lackluster. You can call it human or good art if you want, but I would disagree. This movies invites pretentiousness. Did I mention it's boring? If this reminds you of your own life then get a hobby for Christ's sake. It's not a study in modern living it's contrived art.
