This is the weirdest Hallmark family drama ever. The direction and the edit is amazing in how everything is slightly montage and awkwardly theatrical, the lighting is ad hoc bare minimum and that moody slow jazz on top is magically cheesy. The supporting cast are really not doing good but it could be the direction making it hard for everyone. Stanhope's acting is passable but his scything bitter and cynical act is still doing its job from the backbones, much like his character on the stage doing his job regardless the booze and circumstance. The script and drama is a predictable feelbad melodrama genre piece that will surprise noone. All in all, it's like a pastisch daytime TV production, except it's fucking Doug Stanhope himself presenting the dangers of addiction. I appreciate the message and what I believe is honesty, it brings weird depths to it. It's really not a good movie. Yet, it is a really unusual experience to watch because of all these elements. For me personally, in a sort of good way.

(Oh man how I would like to hear Doug Stanhope read my opinion and give a counter review of what a pretentious hipster cineast piece of shit I am. Of well, a man can dream.)
