The Prowler

Rather good kills and practical effects, but The Prowler has got the thinnest plot I have seen in a while. The pacing, however, is rather good and when stuff starts to happen, it really gets going. The ending is actually quite nice, and ends up being one of the better slasher endings of the early 80s. If they had worked a bit more on the story, this could have been rather good. As it stands, it lands where so many other slashers from the 80s end up... Decent, but not much more. Though... Well worth a viewing for slasher fans because of the excellent kills.

The way the killer's head is blown off by that shotgun is the best death so far this Hooptober! Tom Savini's work here is just him showing off, he truly is one of the best special effect guys ever! Such amazing handy work! It is the sole reason for you to watch this one! The story however is weak even for a slasher film, the motive the killer has is very weak, the story it self is all over the place and the man behind the mask is way to predictable. In the end I was just waiting for the kills. I'm still wondering though, why did that guy in the wheelchair grab Pam? And why didn't those two lovers in the basement bite the dust? Anyway, this one is worth watching for the special effects. It is a slasher with more potential than it showed us. And be sure to watch it on Shudder and watch the Last Drive-In version with Joe Bob, that rant about mobile phones is simply amazing! Ps. Pam's gonna have a huge water bill! That water must have been running for 12 hours straight!
