I wished I liked this film as much as everyone else. Saoirse Ronan remains at the top of her field. She hard carries this movie. I felt this movie was a bit too long. The pacing was really tough, perhaps intentionally. I couldn't help wondering how much I'd have liked it without the constant nature-fun-facts-as-allegories-for-recovery voiceovers. It’s shot really beautifully! The stunning landscapes of the Orkney Islands. I didn't really get attached to anyone or interested in what happened to Rona because there is no real character insight, not much insight into the character's relationships, really surface level dialogue.

Saorsie was great. Without her I wouldn't have made it through the first 30 minutes. The rest was tough. Not because of its topic but more because of the way it presents itself. The shifting through timelines and the editing isn't my cup of tea. It makes it harder to follow things. Because of that I don't connect with the character. In many way it work more as an advertisement for the Orkney Islands then as a look into addiction and alcoholism.

People next to me were genuinely concerned by the amount of times I cried through the movie. It was wonderful, beautiful, truly sad, and hopeful.

it strikingly deals with an inner journey. The main character's return to the countryside in Scotland reveals the process of coming to terms with the past and healing for both him and the audience. The film delicately deals with the main character's struggle with addiction and his return to his old life. The harsh but calm atmosphere of nature reflects his mood and gives the viewer the feeling of accompanying this quest. The lead actor's performance is extremely intimate; It deepens the character by conveying internal conflicts and vulnerabilities in a natural way. I would say that The Outrun is a touching film that describes the process of finding oneself in an impressive language, but I don't like this kind of movie. I wrote it for those who love such films. A full 5 star out of 10 movie in my eyes.

If you are fan of the very adaptable Saoirse Ronan then you'll probably love this - she throws just about everything into the role of "Rona". She has returned to her mother's home in Orkney to recover from a fairly torrid time of booze and drugs in London. The timelines are threaded together to drip More

The struggle to overcome addiction is indeed a noble one, and it’s been the subject of many fine films over the years. The same is true of movies that explore individual efforts to get one’s life back on track by returning home to one’s roots, both as a way of finding oneself and healing. And, More
