183 years before the events chronicled in the original trilogy, a sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm Hammerhand and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg. Pretty boring movie, I wouldn't waste your time coming to theatres to see it. The king was the only likeable part of the entire movie

It was OK as a story, nice filler history for the canon, if a bit heavy-handed with the tropes, and could easily have been half an hour shorter. What marked it down most, for me, was the animation. The backgrounds were gorgeous and smooth, but the foreground action was strangely jerky, like frames were missing. A strange stylistic choice.

Being an animation this unfortunately won't get the love it deserves. Reminds me heavily of watching something like Nausicaa. I felt for the characters, it was beautiful and epic. A nice ride out into Tolkien's middle earth.

At last new Lord of the Rings material arrives that is actually worthwhile, and that's an achievement in itself. War of the Rohirrim transports us back to Middle-earth with an epic and well-constructed story, albeit one that feels a little unevenly paced at times.
