The youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. With mermaids forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.

As a Dane, I see this as blatant cultural appropriation ... real cultural appropriation and I AM OFFENDED!

3 Thoughts After Watching ‘The Little Mermaid’: 1. Halle Bailey IS Ariel. She was absolute perfection. From voice to vibe, she captured her essence impeccably. I believe a star has officially been born. 2. Melissa McCarthy had veryyy gargantuan tentacles to fill. And I think Pat Carroll would’ve been incredibly pleased with what she did with her sea witch. 3. I thought they built upon the original film’s story in all the right ways. Fleshing it out to make a little more sense. Providing more substance. While not everything was picture perfect, it worked and gave fresh magic to a beloved story. Bonus Thought: I thought it was a fantastic movie to look at, especially under the sea. Gorgeous colors and visuals. Eye candy all around. And that includes Jonah Hauer-King. :pound_symbol:snack

What is the point of this? This movie is too dark and murky underwater. The original was so much better. And how does the father have 5 daughter mermaids that are 5 different races? Disney needs to stop trying to make everything equal in situations that make no logical sense.

If whitewashing is bad then the opposite of whitewashing must be good, right?

The movie mainly follows the original story and Halle Bailey was the best part of the movie.
Although her performance felt too broadway-ish at some moments, her voice is stunning and she shows a bubbly personality which makes it able to sit through this boring movie...

Halle Bailey served a very good performance with a lot of charisma and passion, she also has an impressive voice. In some parts people were clapping from excitement and I shed a tear since I saw her performing her first song.

'The Little Mermaid' is one of the better Disney live-action remakes.

I'd personally even put it on the same level as the 1989 animated movie, though admittedly I am not someone with any sort of connection to that original flick. Halle Bailey makes for a good Ariel. Daveed Diggs, Javier More
