Jodorowsky's The Holy Mountain is simply one of those movies that you have to see to believe. Breaking down all traditionally accepted narrative structures and ways of filmmaking while also managing to keep a consistent level of humor throughout, The Holy Mountain manages to accomplish everything it sets out to achieve, and during its highest moments this film leaves the viewer in complete awe, in a good or bad way depending on who the viewer is. The sets here are strange and psychedelic, the costumes all fantastic specifically for that of the "Alchemist" character played by Jodorowsky himself, and the music here shows a lot of variety and never fails to impress me with just how many genres it manages to pull from and still manages to pull off. Not everything in this film is shown in an incredibly obvious way, however it isn't so far out there that trying to pick apart certain concepts and ideas on first viewing is nearly impossible, this isn't a Kaufman movie is essentially what I'm getting at here. So yeah, overall I adore The Holy Mountain, it's one of my favorite films ever made. This is a movie that is very strange and as a result will certainly not appeal to everyone, however if you can go in with an open mind and you have $5 to spare, I'd suggest sitting down and simply experiencing the special, weird, eccentric masterpiece that is The Holy Mountain.
