Henry Ian Cusick and Christopher Plummer star in the biblical epic _The Gospel of John_, a faithful retelling of John the Apostle’s account of Jesus Christ’s ministry. And this is kind of a problem, as the film’s adherence to the structure and wording of the Gospel isn’t always cinematic; requiring a lot of voice over exposition. This also hurts the acting, as the actors don’t really have time to develop their characters and most of their story is told through narration. Still, the costumes and sets are well-done and the film does do a good job at bringing the text to life. And it doesn’t shy away from or attempt to diminish the salvation message, but rather leans into Jesus’ claims of divinity and being “the way, the truth, and the life.” _The Gospel of John_ has some problems, but it’s also quite powerful and captures the spirit of John’s gospel.
