Gets plus points for its intensely likeable casting, all of whom chew up every scene they’re in. But as charming as it sometimes is, it’s all woefully obvious.
What an interesting movie- I have to admit it was not amazing, but the acting was superb. There'#39;s twists and turns but most of it is kind of expected.
There was a lot of lies in that film but the truth always comes out in the end. I had a little feeling it was gonna go the way it went. I loved it and great cast that worked well together.
Really enjoyed the storyline to this. Grinning at the end.
Highly enjoyable to watch, better than I thought it would be. The twist ending was rather obvious but it was beautiful to see it play out and learn about the justification behind it.
Acting was good, I love Helen Mirren and Ian McKellen. I even liked the story, I thought it was quite entertaining.
An abysmal ending ruined what was an otherwise boring and predictable waste. Oh well, this film might be good for the older crowd...like older than 110.
McKellen played the role brilliantly. The film also does not give a direct plot solution almost until the end, although it is known that the cheater will face some punishment.
Great acting ,predictable plot ,bullshit ending. Worth a watch.
Revenge is a dish best served very, very cold. Predictable in broad strokes, utterly ridiculous in its finer details.
So sick of the media using hair clippings for DNA matching. DNA can only be extracted from the intact hair root FFS.
in a sea of absolute effluence this movie is a gem. full of suspense and intrigue. both Helen mirren and Ian McKellen are amazing. even the sound sets the tone for interaction. whilst it is a simple story with a twist it's worthy of your time.
Good movie, It'#39;s like a Drama version of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
As Mirren says towards the end of the film: This is deeper than you think. I'#39;m sure there are plot holes within the movie somewhere, but its still an enjoyable watch, and this is largely thanks to sterling performances from Mirren and McKellen.
Boring......oh and I really hate Helen Mirren. Maybe if she was likable I’d have enjoyed it. The reason for the revenge was rather weak it looked more like a very strange first time gone wrong but not a ra#e. It was hard not to root for for Ian’s character even though he’s bad. Regardless not worth watching
Good movie with great performances. The twists kept it interesting. A movie about 2 older people.... one a swindler and the other a well off widow. Surprisingly the man loses.
It'#39;s fine. An okay story with some twists and turns and decent acting. Nothing really special or memorable.
Good performance by the Mirren, McKellen and the rest of the cast but the story and the way it was going to end was pretty predictable very early on. Can't help feeling the film would have been much better with a less preposterous story line that REALLY lacks any credibility whatsoever leaving the viewer far more with a feeling of 'huh!' rather than 'great' when the reason finally unravels. I mean, seriously!
A great watch. It started out one way, and suddenly turned into way different things. Great acting too.
I thought it was absolutely splendid. Good casting, slow but interesting plot and a well thought out script. It was a bit predictable, but some of the surprise storyline towards the end added a nice twist.
This movie delivers quite an interesting storyline which is well executed. The best part though is definitely seeing McKellen and Mirren a film together. They both really are true acting icons.

The main selling point for this is the first on-screen pairing of Ian McKellen and Judi Dench, two of the most accomplished actors in the history of stage and screen. The film is worth watching for their performances as they are both so good they elevate the fairly mediocre subject material to a higher level than it deserves. The film wants to be a tense thriller in which you are rooting for Dench's wealthy widow, not wanting her to fall victim to McKellen's conman. There is some good material here and the two leads, plus Russell Tovey, are extremely watchable. I felt shortchanged with the dénouement as it left me thinking 'Really? That's the motivation and the entire reason for the actions?' At that point, I should have wanted to immediately watch the film to see what I missed, but this seems like a film where the plotting feels a bit half baked and the ending doesn't link in with the rest of the film to the point where you'll watch it again to see where you were deceived by Bill Condon's direction and Jeffrey Hatcher's script. It's a film which is worth watching for the interplay between the two stellar leads, but one which won't stay with you for long after the credits have rolled unless you want to spend some time wondering what made this so appealing to McKellen and Dench in the first place.

If you enjoy reading my Spoiler-Free reviews, please follow my blog @ https://www.msbreviews.com Exquisite performances from two all-time greats: Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren. They carry the whole film on their shoulders, and it's mostly due to their extremely captivating displays that I genuinely enjoyed this movie. Unfortunately, its screenplay lacks believability and some creativity since the key components of the story are predictable from the get-go. Rating: B

Great performances from both McKellan and Mirren which isn't surprising, but the final act with the reveal of the twist might've been unpredictable, but I like my mystery-thrillers to throw in some clues leading up to it, which this one was out of left field. For the performances might be worth checking out, but the plot almost undid all that was working up until the reveal. **2.75/5**
