A welcome antidote to the flux of YA dystopian tales, this is a good film marred only by a sudden ending. The novel on which the film is based, was written before the likes of Divergent and Hunger Games and so the film can be forgiven of its similarities. This is concerned less with sci-fi action, however. Its focus is hope and a future after society has been neutralised thanks to decades of war and inhumanity. Worth watching and its message is worth considering.

I just read the book so I decided to rewatch this. I like the movie better than the book. It has an outstanding cast and it was more hopeful.

No feelings were evoked until the end, and even when they were, it was no thanks to the characters what so ever. Everything just felt way too fast, yet somehow dragged on in a very predictable, lacklustre manner. There really was no depth put into any aspect of this film, when the plot was SO PROMISING! IT COULD'VE BEEN SO MUCH MORE?! I felt that nothing really happened, and nothing really connected...the entire film felt so void, the message (which is supposed to be so powerful!) barely felt present...

How would it be living in a world without colors? Where everything was black and white? A world full of rules where everything is automated and where emotions do not exist? Certainly would not be strange to those born into it, but it is undoubtedly frustrating for some who once lived and know that t More

I like this genre of film plus with Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep, I was expecting more. Bridges and Streep deliver top-shelf performances it's just there is not enough of them in the film.

There's a scene where Streep and Bridges get into the conversation of whether free will is worth the hur More

Although the cast is good (for the young actors), and excellent for Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep, this movie just has no scenario.

The no-emotion dystopia has been covered many times in the literature and movie industry but, here, the story is just too simplistic and gives no satisfaction at all More

What if suddenly the society chooses to remove the pain and with it the feelings that creates it? The giver, based on Lois Lowry‘s novel, answers this question showing us an advanced society who avoids feelings thanks to daily injections. Ruled by a council of elders, families are gathered thanks More
