Within that cinema wrapped in symbologies in the first stage of Carlos Saura, this is a film achieved in its formal representation of a conservative family. At first it seems an approximation to Buñuel's satire, but it develops closer to a tragicomedy in which a family close to the Franco regime is represented as a farce, a series of theatrical pieces performed by Antonio's relatives to recover the lost memory. It's also the memory of a confronted Spain, the dictatorship and oppression. Because thanks to the López Vázquez's performing, Antonio has childish gestures but hides a dictator.
