Overview

While diving in a remote French lake, a couple of YouTubers who specialise in underwater exploration videos discover a house submerged in the deep waters. What was initially a unique finding soon turns into a nightmare when they discover that the house was the scene of atrocious crimes. Trapped, with their oxygen reserves falling dangerously, they realise the worst is yet to come: they are not alone in the house.

Well, you sure haven't seen a movie set in this setting before, but the movie is going over fairly standard plot points. Because of the setting though, it adds a creepiness factor that makes it entertaining to watch. It does take a while to get to the house, which is annoying, but once there, it really starts to crank up the creepy in all the right ways.

Not a bad film. Wife liked it more than me

Well, I liked this movie. It did well creating a claustrophobic atmosphere, and creepy environment. Story was OK too, and although the Blair Witch-style camera work may not appeal to all, it does add to the authenticity.

It's a very interesting movie, with a good story, and because it's set in water, it's somewhat different from normal. The scenes are more distressing, thrilling and involving, with a darker atmosphere. The performances are good, managing to convey very well the feeling of tension that is always present, and the movie even has some good scares and great visual effects.

I was kinda skeptical before watching, I mean the premise is kinda stupid but also intriguing. As a fan of found footage and movies that don't particularly follow the basic path, I found this quite enjoyable. It sure has some flaws and could be even great if they had focused on other things and used the new environment a little better, but I found myself sometimes scared, had a dreadful feeling while watching it and was totally surprised by the ending. Consequent and bold. I love it. I think it deserves some recognition, therefore I will give an extra point because I have never seen something like that.

Not bad. It’s not found footage though. It’s a regular movie with some first-person shots.

The underwater photography is good (though disorientating) and the movie's concept is a good one.But with a weak script and irritating characters, this is a movie best left to sink without trace.

It was an ok POV haunted house movie. But the excessive amount of bubbles and shaking camera really made it hard to see what was going on sometimes.

The Urbex-diving idea is interesting, but the whole movie is definitely poor.

Who goes on a penetration dive without ropes??

basically watched this from comments and found it a good watch

The Deep House (2021) - ❤x7 I expected this to be bad - really bad. But, this was WAY better than expected. The creepiness factor is very high here. It had me transfixed most of the way thru.
DANG! She almost made it :(
How I rate: 1-3 ❤ = seriously! don't waste your time 4-6 ❤ = you may or may not enjoy this 7-8 ❤ = I expect you will like this too 9-10 ❤ = movies and TV shows I really love!

It is good at some points, but after they go underwater and this start to happen you can barely tell what's going on.

It didn't quite hit the landing, but as a fan of claustrophobic horror the build up there were very much worth watching.

Straightforward scary movie set in a very creative environment. As some real tense moments and the underwater works well but also use to many vulgar horror cliché making it an average movie

The concept is so unique, that makes the entire film very watchable and solid.

I enjoyed this movie quite a bit, the setting and atmosphere were very well set out. You did have to put a few things together yourself (which seems to have been missed by other reviewers here) b ut it's all there for you if you actually watch it. The lead male is exceptionally unlikable and you may find you want to see his demise and the lead female I would like to see more of in horror movies as she made a great scream queen in this. Watch to the very end for a post credit scene (maybe 3 seconds max).

This was an ok movie.

Like when someone drops your plate of spaghetti on the carpet and scrapes it back into your plate with the blade of their hand and then still gives it to you. It takes forever to get started and that sucks because the lead male character was such an asshole, I was in a hurry to see bad things happen to him. Then, to make it even worser, the camera work is so sloppy, you can'#39;t enjoy watching it either, as it renders the film as scary as an unflushed toilet.

Overall, the movie had a lot of potential. The idea is an interesting one and the actual setting was pleasantly creepy. However, unfortunately, it just mostly falls flat. Nothing really made sense. Not everything has to be spoon fed to the audience but usually we like some sort of explanation or reasoning behind what's going on. It felt like the filmmakers had a good idea for a big twist but once they reached that twist they had no idea what to do next and just defaulted to pretty generic stuff. The main actress wasn't bad but her boyfriend just wasn't a good actor. Love the concept but the execution just wasn't there.

Spoilers

Filming underwater with a limited budget is obviously not easy so I can sort of understand that the elevator pitch of "it's a haunted house BUT it plays at the bottom of a lake" didn't really result in a great movie but I didn't expect them to also fail so miserably at the writing portion. The dialogue felt stiff like it was dubbed into English having me not invested in the couple at all and the they didn't really know what to do with their runtime after the initial exploration of the place and even forcing exposition for the "climax". I did like how the set looked submerged though but I can't say that it felt very claustrophobic since the camera still made things look oddly sterile. Maybe they should have just stuck to the POV/drone cam so they could do things besides the jumpscares
(the rotating shots do however not boost my confidence in that)
? À l'intérieur remains a fluke sadly :(.

Terrible movie where both characters day, and little to no explanation as to why they were brought and baited there and as to why there are even enemies present.

a little bit creepy but mostly just a whole lot of unexplained nonsense. like why are some chairs floating around but the phone's chilling in place? i couldn't focus on anything after that point. ending was frustrating too, so it lacked the payoff that b rate horrors usually have.

It's a cool concept and must've been a bitch to shoot.

Nothing to see here, guys. Very boring movie!!

2/10 Terrible piss-poor Not For Me. Right the underwater Work was awesome, Not quite seen it as inclusive for us the audience to be apart of. That was some of the best underwater work I've seen, Shit that would impress James Cameron. But everything else just falls apart the moment this lackluster movie begins. I hated Ben and Tina Right from the get go, Super annoying and they just irritated me to fcuk. I actually said at the beginning god I hope they both get got With whatever the problem is in this movie. Then the french kicked in Without subtitles which Went on for way way to long, (even Ben made a joke about Having no subtitles, I wasn't laughing). The plot and reason and None conclusion was utter nonsense and complete Bollocks. What was happening in the house was frickin awesome, was the enough of that....absolutely not. Then the End. "WAIT....WHAT" (get the.....outa here). I was waiting to see this one as I love this kinda stuff And i'm a massive fan Of found footage scares, This however was just An Epic Waste Of My Time. Verdict: This could Have Risin to the top Of being a great horror Instead it Sank Hard and Fast and Drownded me in Boredom And I just found like the hole Affair robbed me of my Life's Oxygen. 2 Thumbs Down.

_The Deep House_ is plagued by a problem of twos. Meaning there are opposing forces slowing it down, and keeping it from being a good movie. Throughout the short runtime, we only have two characters, and they are both completely annoying. We have Ben, who is grossly ambitious, to the point of being self-centered and mean. Then we have Tina, who is whiny through most of the film. Look, I get it, being trapped in a haunted house is bad enough, but add to that being underwater and life sucks. Trouble is, Tina's dragging her feet well before that point. She's clearly just not open to the YouTube life like Ben is. This is what I mean by a problem of twos: Option 1. Have a couple who are both on board for this or 2. Give us a couple who are annoying and we'll hate. Why choose the latter? Onto the way this is filmed. We already have a couple who is filming their entire journey, so it's the perfect excuse for a found-footage movie, but It's also blended with third-person shots. Why? Pick one. This would have worked much better as POV the whole time. On to the plot. This is a standard haunted-house movie, only underwater. Great idea. It's already scary being underwater as a land mammal, but then you throw in ghosts. Trouble is, how much information are we going to give our drivers? Too much seems way too convenient, and too little could make it confusing. No surprise, _The Deep House_ gives too much. Another set of twos is making the movie bilingual. Nothing is going to take me out of a movie more than having to read subtitles. Does everyone remember the subtitles in _The Blair Witch Project_, and _Cloverfield_? No? That's because it's only going to hurt a movie that is largely found footage. The final nail in the coffin:
Tina dies. Does a ghost kill her? No, she drowns just inches from the surface of the lake. What a waste of time. What a waste of a good idea for a horror movie.
Okay, after reading another review, I saw that there was a post-credit scene. I watched it. It adds nothing to the story.

This is the newest horror film from French duo Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury following Tina and Ben who are a couple of young youtubers specialized in abandoned building exploration videos. They're on trip for their new video. After reaching their destination, the lake is too crowded and obviously isn't suitable for diving. Lucky for them there's a local there who knows a remote lake area where a preserved house is completely submerged and he agrees to take them there. This is probably the best haunted house film I've ever seen. It's fun, unique, tense, and actually scary. The subgenre is tiring already so seeing film like this is refreshing. It still has the usual haunted house formula but the fact that it's underwater makes it a lot scarier. The acting's mostly ok, there are moments where I find them annoying but never in an irritating way. The highlight of the film is the setting and visuals. They're fantastic and elevate the film a lot since the exploration aspect fills the most runtime. The water is dark and murky giving you very limited vision and there's a lot of creepy floating objects. Since it's underwater, it got me anxiety filled throughout and the oxygen level as a time bomb effectively increase the tension.
