Edward Fox delivers an outstanding performance in the film. He fits the role of “The Jackal” like a glove, portraying the assassin with remarkable intelligence, icy composure, and calculating precision. His performance remains one of the most unforgettable aspects of the film and solidifies him as one of cinema’s most iconic hitmen.

The movie masterfully captures the political tensions of the time, with a particular focus on France’s role in Algeria during the 1960s. Director Fred Zinnemann succeeds in creating an authentic and engaging historical backdrop that adds layers of depth to the story.

A significant strength of the film is its authentic feel. The use of multiple European locations, combined with meticulous attention to detail, transports the viewer back to the 1960s. From smoking indoors and ashtrays on trains to the design of the cars, clothing, and subtle nuances, every element enhances the film’s atmosphere.

Despite its deliberate pacing, the film never loses its tension. The methodical build-up keeps viewers on edge, and every step of the Jackal’s plan feels realistic and captivating.

It is remarkable how well the film has aged. Even though 52 years have passed since its release, it retains an incredible quality – both visually and narratively.
