I don't think this movie is nearly as bad as others have reviewed it. I agree with some of their points, but I think it is plenty interesting and well paced. It isn't a scare-fest and focuses more on the creepy vibe, which, unfortunately, is lost on many people. To each their own, I guess.

Anyway, I definitely would have liked to see this as an R rated film. There is too much focus, sometimes, to make a movie more accessible, but that leaves the movie feeling lacking.

Evie is not a very likeable character. She overreacts and has no self restraint. And, shocker, she's offended over a trifle. Sure, the butler is an asshole, but that is it. She also seems to be an entitled American that doesn't know when to STFU.

She does have some redeeming moments with Walt. She's much more palatable when he is around. It's also obvious she is a very caring person, so she gets a some credit there.

Walt, on the other hand, is a wonderful character. Not only is he well written (trite, but well written), Thomas Doherty has an amazing presence.

Victoria is is mostly poorly written, but she has her moments. Her comments to Lucy at the spa were both spot on and hysterical. Actually, that whole scene was well done.

I really like Nathalie Emmanuel, but she doesn't seem to be the right pick to be a lead opposite Thomas Doherty. At least not with the character as written. She has much more presence in the Fast and Furuous movies. I blame the writers and director for her underwhelming performance. She is definitely capable of more.
The Harkers, excellent reference. I wondered if Lucy was "the" Lucy. And the answer is "yes".

My biggest beef with this movie, and it's a big one, is that Evie didn't die. She 100% should have died when Dracula died.
