Yet another movie based on the OG herself, Carmilla, and again, in name only. It seems very strange to me that she pops up this often, when she doesn't have the detailed history for it to make sense, like Dracula, even though Carmilla is two and a half decades older than The Count.

Anyway, this movie is mostly garbage. It starts with a newlywed couple - and I was getting major _Daughters of Darkness_ flashbacks. They pull up to a hotel, the wife (Susan) gets out of the car, and goes to their room, while the husband parks the car. In the room, Susan is attacked by a masked man, who rips off her clothes, and presumably rapes her. Her husband comes in to find her sitting on the bed, and she says she wants to leave - and it never comes up again; the screenwriter is just saying, "yeah, deal with it."
It was at this point that I realized I had seen this movie already, and the first time I saw it I thought the attacker was her husband, when it is clearly not, though I now know where I got that idea. They leave, and go to a castle. Upon settling into the bedroom, he rips her dress - just like the attacker - and this is just the start of his ongoing abuse. A few scenes later, he picks her up by the hair; that shouldn't even be possible! Later, she locks herself in a room, to get away from him, and he kicks in the door, then starts to grope her. I started to get the impression that they were a BDSM couple, but no, it's very obvious that she is not into this, it's just abuse.
Moving on to Carmilla herself, the way she is introduced may be the dumbest moment in movie history. She is found on the beach, buried in sand. Why? How? Who buried her? She wouldn't be able to do that by herself. Toward the end of the movie it is revealed that Carmilla is a school teacher. Why? Get this, she is wearing glasses, and then removes them, because she's Clark Kent and we were all fooled by her amazing disguise. Another genius moment at the end is showing Carmilla sleeping in a coffin. Why? Vampires sleep in a coffin during the day, but she has been out in the sunlight.
Another part that doesn't make sense - and at this point, that's 99% of the movie - is we get a medical doctor added to the story, and he begins helping the husband solve the mystery of what is going on with Susan. Why? He's not a detective or a cop or a private investigator. This guy went to medical school for years so he can help you with your toxic, days-old marriage. I'd buy that for a dollar. I'm talking about this character for more than this reason... see, he has a huge issue with Susan because she, and Carmilla are having a lesbian affair. Major _Virgin Witch_ flashbacks. The blatant homophobia in this movie is disgusting. I wouldn't complain, but we are supposed to be on their side. Now I want the lesbian vampires to win because the guys are abusive homophobes.
I'm reminded of when _Basic Instinct_ was in production, and GLAAD was protesting it, saying the movie was detrimental toward the LGB community. Not only are there scenes in _The Blood Spattered Bride_ that remind me of _Basic Instinct_, but it reminds me that SJWs can't find their ass with both hands! They seriously need to watch more movies, and if they ever saw true homophobia, their brain would probably melt.

The ending was terrible:
the husband finds Carmilla asleep with Susan in a coffin - again, why? He then shoots them, and pulls out a knife. Cut to a newspaper headline that a man cut out some hearts. What lazy filmmaking! The rule is show, don't tell.
This may be a longest review I have even written, and that's because I have huge problems with this movie.

Finally, a fox is killed in this movie. A real fox. The poor animal's leg is caught in a trap, which means someone likely put her leg in the trap, because I doubt they just waited around for a fox to trap herself. Then, while the poor fox is struggling to escape, the husband shoots her twice. The scene serves no purpose other than to foreshadow and set up the traps. Fuck this movie, fuck the director, fuck the actor who shot the fox. This movie is homophobic, misogynistic, and speciesist.
