Not funny enough to be a comedy, and not scary enough to be horror/thriller. Someone recommended this movie bc I love Scary Movie, but sadly this is nowhere near that level. The writing is just.. too weak. I would've forgiven it if it just been scary like Jordan Peele's movies, but no, it failed in that too. Very few deaths (and non creative ones at that) for a supposed slasher. Had no rewatchability. This is one of those movies that you will forget even existed by next year. Sad bc the premise had so much potential.

@fazyfaz - Agreed, but sadly, IMO, this is one of those movies that, if you dislike it and you're white, you get called the bad "R" word, but if you say you didn't like it and you're a person of color, you may get your "color" card revoked. For me, not only was the writing NOT very clever, but, the dialog, (especially the opening few minutes) sounded more like what Black people THINK White people think Black people talk like to each other when not in mixed company. Then they broke out the Uno reverse card, and made sure to include every imagined stereotype when one finds themselves amongst fellow flies awash in a crap-ton of buttermilk. Cue the "racist" cop, store owner(s) trope(s) as well as a riveting discussion as to who has greater, or lesser value based on skin tone, which, sadly, HAS some bearing, especially in past black society. I vividly remember discussions growing up about whose family had "good" hair, or were "Africa, or "Blue" Black. ("their boy is so dark, when he gets out the car, the oil light comes on)

I almost didn't watch this at all when I saw Leah Butler was producing it, especially in the light of recent revelations concerning Oprah and the Daniel's gatekeeping in regards to the likes of Chapelle, Ice Cube, Kevin Hart, as well as Harvey Weinstein, Epstein Island and other nefarious allegations. Like Dave said, "It's a dirty game, and the only way to win is NOT to play".
