I wasn't sure if this was going to be any good after all 1) it's about banking and 2) would it be an exercise in woe is me cause I'm black.

I was wrong on both counts - it was fantastic - very entertaining, great acting and Samuel L Jackson didn't say MF once!

What it shows is how badly the black people were (and are) treated by white people in America - it's criminal quite frankly. Why people would think someone can't be intelligent or useless because of their colour is mind-boggling to me. These guys legally fought the system despite their obstacles and should be praised for it. Their goal was to help fellow black/negro people to make a better life for themselves, so it begs the question: Why aren't "proud" black people like Oprah, Jay-Z and Beyonce etc. not helping out in a similar fashion? They are billionaires and I've never heard any of them helping others help themselves in a true sense. They made sure they contributed to the rioter bail fund, but what about all the black businesses, cars and homes that were destroyed? Time to look in the mirror.

Everyone should watch this movie.
It's one of the best I've seen in a long time. 10/10

Didn't even know this movie existed until 2024 on Apple+ recommendations.

I've got to say I love all told historical stories. While someone complained it didn't go into second marriages and aftermath, I agree with the writers and director that the story loses the point about how unfair 1950s and 60s America was for everyone except white men. They never actually did anything wrong and it boggles the mind to think it was the norm to treat other human beings so unfairly. The idea that any white person would run to the bank and withdrawal all their money just because a black person was given a loan.... How worthless of a human being do you have to be to be that petty?

But I think when we talk about reparations (I'm white BTW) this is a great example of who we owe. Slave owners were paid reparations for their slaves being released... even though for the next century they did nothing but control and continue to prevent people from pulling themselves up. BUT HERE? It's a clear case of illegally seizing property from black men who legally owned it because some racist redneck trash used the system to make it that way. Should their families be returned at least some of the money and/or land that was stolen? yes. Just like in Manhattan Beach. We can put a price tag on things like this.

and I'm sure some of you will get your panties in a twist by the suggestion, but truth is our government, State and local also have all benefited from these kind of heinous stunts. and more often than we want to admit there's no one to collect the reparations. But where there are? There should be some remorse where it is real not lip service. Same with Native Americans. there's no excuse more than 3/4 of Navajo Nation lives without running water. We stole their land, forced them where they are and they still helped us win WWII. White people in this country only seen to understand cash so that's the only way to truly repent as a whole.

This is a must see movie. Really. Real people. Real events. Excellent script. Excellent directing. The actors all are spot on.
