In the time of the "cangaceiros" in the badlands of the Northeast of Brazil, the cruel Captain Galdino Ferreira and his band abduct the schoolteacher Olívia, expecting to receive a ransom for her. However, one of his men, Teodoro, falls in love and flees with her through the arid backcountry chased by the brigands.

The movie has beautiful cinematography, some well-done scenes for the time, and a very strong musical element that positively drives part of the story. However, most of the film is made up of scenes with small individual situations, going completely outside the main story, including humorous scenes that don't work in the context, which slows everything down too much. The performances are reasonable, but the lines are overly theatrical.
