Overview

In a seaside California town, best friends Mac and Nick are on opposite sides of the law. Mac is a former drug dealer trying to clean up his act, while Nick is a high-profile detective trying to take down a Mexican drug lord named Carlos. Soon Nick's loyalties are put to the test when he begins an affair with restaurateur Jo Ann -- a love interest of Mac's -- unwittingly leading his friend into a police-orchestrated trap.

so this movie has a pretty good cast fun dialogue but man is it boring and slow paced

A good cast and a bad script.

Tequila Sunrise is an entertaining crime thriller that’s full of mystery and intrigue. Two former friends, Lt. Nick Frescia and Mac McKussic, find themselves on opposite ends of the law, and engage in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse when Frescia gets wind that McKussic will be making a major drug deal. Mel Gibson, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Kurt Russell form a solid cast and give strong performances. And, the story is written fairly well and does a good job at building suspense. Yet, there are some parts of the film (including the last act) that don’t work, and come off as a bit forced. Still, Tequila Sunrise is an engaging neo-noir drama with a compelling story and interesting characters.

An under-rated crime movie that’s sexy and engaging due to the cast. I think it runs smoothly and it’s less boring than people say. It is hard to find the movie boring when the cast is solid and the performances as well. The late Raul Julia was a show stealer. Also the late J.T. Walsh was always reliable playing an asshole.

Featured User Reviews

"Tequila Sunrise" is an incredibly turgid film for the most part and it seems to be much longer than it actually is which is the sort of underachievement any director worth their salt would be perfectly happy not to boast about at lavish Hollywood cocktail parties. The film has a desperately limited ration of surprises to offer any viewer willing to stay the course and such brave souls as these are apt to be very few and far between and for those gallant few of us willing to stubbornly persevere to the bitter end such eminently forgettable surprises hardly make the effort worthwhile because in the end they contribute absolutely nothing to the languid pacing.
