Please don't let my rating fool you (rating systems are their own special thing). This is a worthwhile film. To date, every project made by this team has been interesting and they've earned my trust to follow them on every project.

Something in the Dirt has an intriguing premise and excels at building unease and something of an existential dread. It may seem like a zero budget film at first, but it's not. As you'll see throughout the film, this project was intentionally crafted and includes very polished elements.

All this typed, I'm not sure how I feel about it. That said, here I am, still thinking about it and coming back to write a review. Does that convey enough? This movie has a wonderful dedication at the end. To making films with friends. That warms the heart. The makers of this film happen to also be good actors, as one of their characters may be the last person you'd want to make friends with. Ha. I've met that person several times.

What is this film about? I'm not sure. A lot is happening and, as the movie progresses, it becomes clear that what you've seen may not be what's happened. It's a mystery for which there are no answers... or it could be interpreted as someone muddying the waters for an unfortunate and straightforward event.
