**THE GOOD:**

Tom Berenger and Mimi Rogers have their sweet moments together, even if it takes a good while before I warmed up to their performances and characters.

**THE BAD:**

Ridley Scott manages to add some excitement and flair into the tenser and faster sequences, but they still feel too clumsily put together considering what the director has achieved in his earlier films.

This film features one of the strangest and least sensible soundtracks I’ve ever come across within this genre. It ranges from randomly inserted pieces of classical music and half-sensual jazz tracks to cheap Hitchcockian thriller soundtrack rip-offs with some long-forgotten pop songs thrown in during the party scenes.

In terms of its story and characters, Someone to Watch Over Me leaves very little creative space for Scott to move in, and consequently, he doesn’t manage to make this film particularly interesting visually.

This is one of those movies that don’t seem to be able to make up their mind about the story they want to tell. Is this supposed to be a relationship drama, a crime drama, a thriller or something completely different?

There is next to nothing in the story to cling to. The plot is filled with clichés and overdone cinematic tropes and there are no attempts made at bringing something new and exciting to the mix.

The last act isn’t fully as exciting as it should be, mostly due to the lack of a proper build-up of tension preceding it.

Andreas Katsulas makes for a good villain, so it’s a shame his character is completely wasted.

_A slow pace, clichéd script and lack of thrills make this forgotten entry in Ridley Scott’s cinematography a disappointing affair._
