She just needs to pick a man. Honestly, neither one is great, and she'd be better off with the priest. (Unfortunately, the earthquake (via the writer) takes the onus off her of having to choose.)

I sometimes found Jeanette MacDonald to be a sort of singing hybrid of Bette Davis and Binnie Barnes!
